1956 Fiberfab Speedster Replica with a 1.9-liter GEX Engine

First organized in 1956, and well known as the purveyor of various Volkswagen-based kit cars usually marketed through smudgy ads in car magazines, Washington-based Fiberfab produced a variety of replica models in the 1980s. This 1956 Fiberfab Speedster Replica, inspired by the Porsche 356 Speedster from the 1950s, is reportedly the result of a four-year build undertaken in 2018 by a restoration shop in western Michigan. The seller purchased the Fiberfab-based Speedster in 2020 and describes it as definitely a head turner at shows and during street cruising. The Speedster's powertrain now consists of an enlarged, high-performance Volkswagen engine and an aftermarket performance transmission. The Speedster has been made into a roadster, with no top or mounting hardware, and is described as having no rust.  This Speedster is fitted with a 1,904cc performance Volkswagen engine of undislosed output built by GEX International of Booneville, Arkansas. The engine is reportedly built from new parts, including Bosch electrical components, and receives its fuel mixture via two 40mm carburetors with performance air cleaners.- the engine is fitted with 041 big-valve cylinder heads. Other components reportedly include a Mahle piston kit, an eight-dowel crankshaft and flywheel.- a normal startup without smoke. The GEX-source Pro Street transmission is said to  shift smoothly. The seller is unaware of any powertrain leaks. The engine bay presents as very clean. The silver paint dates to the Speedster's build and is described as beautiful and original. - nicks and a small area of bubbling at the rear of the car that has reportedly been stabilized by clearcoat. The bodywork seems to have no outward damage. The trim appears to be complete and in very good condition. The glass is said to be free of cracks. All lights and turn indicators are reported to work properly. The underside presents as clean, with light surface corrosion in a few spots - The black vinyl seating surfaces are described as brand new and show no tears or other damage. The carpeting is termed new and displays no tears or worn spots. No interior trim is reported to be missing. The Speedster is fitted with vintage-look VDO instrumentation that is reported to be operable except for the oil-pressure gauge. A Pyle audio system has been installed. There is no heater or air conditioning. A Porsche sport steering wheels and seat belts have been installed. The carpeted trunk presents as clean. - - the Speedster's suspension is original and good.- no component damage or functional issues, stating that the shock absorbers and bushings are good. The manual drum brakes are reported to be good. No issues with the polished aftermarket wheels are noted. The Kumho tires are described as brand new.-.
