 Vehicle Description
The seller of this restored 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe was taken by the '58 Impala in the movie American Graffiti and set out find a similar car. He found this Snowcrest White Impala in 2002 in California. It had been carefully restored by a retired tool and die maker to a very high level, in the seller's opinion. The level of restoration was validated by an AACA National First Prize award in 2009, and an AACA Senior Award in 2012. - that the tri-power-topped 348-cu.in. OHV V8 -W- engine is correct for the car, but he can't say if it is the car's original engine. He claims that the engine is the very rare 315-horsepower 348 that Chevrolet rated as having 356 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. These top-horsepower, triple two-barrel carburetor engines had solid lifters. The car starts quickly if it has been driven in the last few days. Longer inactivity periods take longer to start, who adds that he always primes the engine to eliminate unnecessary starter use. He notes very small amounts of leaking oil when the car sits for several weeks. The three-speed manual column-shift transmission shifts properly through all the gears, . This restored Impala was painted Snowcrest White (code 936A) about 25 years ago, who notes some minor paint crazing on the hood and driver's door. - these flaws are only visible under close inspection. Otherwise, the paint is excellent, with no visible nicks or chips, in his opinion. The car has no rust and no dents or scratches, , who adds that all the seals are in good condition with no evidence of water leaks. - all the glass is excellent, and clear with no cracks. The rear window has a small, shallow, fingernail-size chip. All the lighting works properly. The seller points out that the bottom of the body is coated in the correct red oxide paint - The bold red vinyl with tri-color cloth inserts upholstery (code 854) was replaced during the car's restoration and is in excellent condition,- the carpet is excellent and the headliner is -like new.- All the gauges function properly except for the fuel gauge, which is inoperative. The original radio is also functional, who adds that the heater works. - The suspension hasn't been serviced during the seller's ownership, but the shocks and bushings -all seem okay- and there are no power steering leaks. - the brakes aren't -mushy- and there aren't any steering play issues. - -very little wear- on the wide-whitewall tires but admits that they are at least 20 years old. No DOT codes were visible in the provided photos. Bought this 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe 20 years ago. He is trying to reduce his collection, so this AACA award-winning '58 Impala is available. I have restoration photos and many receipts.
