Description
Saturn's short-lived Sky roadster is one of those inexplicable automotive oddities. Who thought it was a good idea for an economy-car brand most famous for dent-resistant plastic body panels to go after the Miata' And then who decided that what it really needed was a turbocharged four-cylinder that would leave the Miata, as well as some V8 muscle cars of the day, in the dust'The right answer is who cares. Its sweet-handling chassis and miniature-Corvette styling made the regular Sky a compelling car, but the Red Line's beastly turbo four elevated the whole package. This 2009 Saturn Sky Red Line Convertible has been remarkably well preserved, presenting even better than its low mileage would suggest. The regular Sky managed 173 horsepower, but the Red Line's turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC inline-four cranked out 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque when new. Contemporary magazine reviews had the automatic-equipped Red Line hitting 60 mph from rest in just over 5 seconds, which would best most new cars under $40,000 or so today. It's so clean under the hood that all the printing on electronic sensors, stickers, and tags is still as legible as it was the day the car left the factory.- it starts right up, never smokes, and the five-speed automatic shifts as designed. The seller claims the Ruby Red paint on this Sky Red Line is in mint condition, with no blemishes. The pictures seem to support that, showing crisp body lines and a smooth finish. The glass appears to be in great shape, and all lighting works perfectly. The convertible top is said to seal tight, with no leaks. The flying buttress fairings on the Sky's top made it somewhat fussy to fold under the rear-hinged trunklid, but once the buyer gets used to it, the task is simple enough - There's not much to the Sky interior, just a couple of black leather seats (which the seller stresses are also in mint condition), a couple of pedals, and a steering wheel. Everything in this one is exceptionally clean, and everything'A/C, heat, power windows and locks, stereo'is said to work. - Critical reviews of the Sky lauded the car's stiff, balanced chassis, compliant suspension, and talkative steering. Even underneath, this roadster looks nearly factory fresh. It's exceptionally clean, with factory grease-pencil marks still visible on the alignment bolts.- everything underneath is in great shape, that the car drives straight and the brakes work perfectly. The stock, five-spoke polished-alloy wheels show no scuffs or curb rash and are mounted with 245/45R18 Bridgestone Drive Guard Plus tires that show 2022 DOT date codes. If you missed out on GM's microVette when it was new, this 2009 Saturn Sky Red Line Convertible looks like a nearly new way to right that wrong.
