This 1948 De Soto Custom Convertible Coupe is one of an estimated 8,100 examples of the only model that year from De Soto that offered the convertible body style.- this De Soto has received a body-on restoration, which included a repaint several years ago. Reportedly a previously a California car, this De Soto is said to be entirely free of rust now. All gaskets and seals were reportedly replaced during the restoration, and the seller has observed no water leaks to the interior. The Custom series was powered by De Soto's 237-cu.in. L-head straight-six. With a compression ratio of 6.6:1 and a single downdraft carburetor, the engine was rated by the manufacturer at 109 horsepower when new. The seller does not know whether this car's engine is original, and its rebuild history is unknown. The seller observes no smoke on startup and reports easier starts with an electric fuel pump fitted. The three-speed manual transmission, with a new clutch, is said to shift properly.- seepage from the transmission and rear end. The engine bay presents as stock and strongly clean. The seller rates the paint as eight on a scale of 10, noting a few touch-ups but no dents. All body seals have been replaced and are believed to be leak-free. The convertible top is said to be like new with no missing components. The chrome presents as being undamaged and in visibly excellent condition. The glass is reported to be free of cracks and other damage. All lighting is described as functional. The De Soto's underside is generally clean, with light surface corrosion on some components -- that the interior has been totally redone, with the seating surfaces, carpeting and the underside of the convertible top presenting as being in very good, undamaged condition. The dashboard is reported to have full trim and all small control knobs. All instruments are reportedly functional except for the factory clock and temperature gauge, the latter of which has been replaced by an aftermarket unit. The radio and speaker are installed but said to be inoperative. The heater is reported to work. -- that the steering box has been rebuilt and the tie-rod ends replaced. All shock absorbers are said to be brand new. The brakes are reported to have been completely rebuilt, the seller noting that the De Soto has current New Hampshire safety inspection.- all five wheels have been powder coated, mounting tires that have traveled fewer than 300 miles.This 1948 De Soto Custom Convertible Coupe is described as having received a body-on restoration and appears to remain in excellent condition.
