 Description
Let's start with the important question: Is this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner an authentic Hemi car' Yes, it is, according to the J in the VIN and the E74 code on the fender tag. It's a four-speed car, too. Now the bigger question: Is the Hemi original to the car' Yes. The engine and transmission's numbers match the VIN. The seller adds this Elephant-engined muscle car, in F3 Frost Green, is largely unrestored, apart from a repaint that was performed in the Eighties. It was purchased by his father in 1988, when the odometer read 22,144, and reportedly sat in his garage until his death in 2017. The seller then inherited it and has kept it secure and garaged. The odometer currently reads 23,017. Recent service has reportedly included a rebuild of the carburetors, replacement of the fuel pump and exhaust system, and a brake overhaul. The car runs and drives well. - - the engine is original and so is the A-833 four-speed manual transmission. It's not known if a rebuild was performed prior to the seller's father acquiring the car, but it reportedly has not been apart since that purchase in 1988. The engine is said to generally start well with its rebuilt carburetors, and there's no smoke upon those starts. There are a number of noted minor leaks and oil drips around the engine, notes the seller, specifically around the oil pan, distributor housing, and valve covers. There are additional powertrain leaks with the transmission side cover and tailshaft seal. The four-speed gearbox is said to shift well. The paint quality is good, but it was painted roughly 40 years ago about the finish on this Frost Green Road Runner. There are some chips noted in the paint, along with a few rust bubbles in the rear quarter panels. There are also some areas where the finish has dulled. I believes some rust repair was performed on the body prior to his father purchasing the car and there is surface rust on the trunk floor. The glass is reportedly in good condition, with no damage, although the seals are said to be showing their age and some water intrusion is noted when washing the car. Additionally, the exterior trim and chrome appear in good condition, while all the exterior lighting is said to be functional, except for one of the hood-mounted turn-signal repeaters. - Inside, the Road Runner's cabin'with bucket seats and a console'appears in very good condition. It is believed to be mostly original, including the seat covers, which do not have rips or holes, but the seatbacks of the front backs are loose and need to be repaired. The carpet and headliner are also believed to be original and showing their age. The driver's footwell area reportedly shows the most wear of the carpet and has faded. As for the headliner, it's sagging a bit at the C-pillars. There are also cracks visible in the steering wheels. The dome light is said to work, but the console lights do not. Additionally, the gauges are reportedly functional, but the tach seems to read higher than the actual engine speed, notes the seller. Also reported functional are the heater and factory AM radio. - The chassis, suspension, and braking systems are reportedly in good order, with no known issues or needs. The car has manual steering and brakes. Recent service has included a brake overhaul, who says the car stops well for drum-brake car and can lock up the tires. There is a slight noise noted during light braking. The car is also said to drive well and track straight, rolling on admittedly older Coker bias-ply redline tires that were installed in 1989 and should be changed before driving any distance. They're mounted on the stock steel wheels with hub caps, which are said to be in nice shape. Additional paperwork for this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner includes receipts for the recent service work, as well as receipts for other parts purchased over the years. It's a real and rare, numbers-matching four-speed Hemi Road Runner that's only been driven about 900 miles since 1988. Regardless of whether it's restored or enjoyed as it is, it represents the pinnacle of Mopar muscle performance.
