 Description
The seller of this Regal Turquoise and India Ivory 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe discovered and purchased it while exploring the back roads of Maine in 1998. The car was the recipient of an older restoration that appears to have held up well because, it was only driven in nice summer weather and always garaged.- it has never been in rain during his ownership. In 2017, he made upgrades to the fuel system, brakes, shocks, and tires. He states that this '55 Bel Air is a nice driving car and believes the 79,374 miles shown on the odometer to be original.- the 265-cu.in. OHV V8, which Chevrolet rated at 162 horsepower when new, is original to the car. The fuel system was restored and updated in 2017 with a rebuilt two-barrel carburetor and a new gas tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, and filler neck. The original single exhaust system was replaced with a dual exhaust sometime prior to the seller purchasing the car. The exhaust system is showing signs of age.- his cold start ritual is to pump the throttle and crank the ignition for five seconds, wait 10 seconds, repeat one more time, and the car starts, idles well, and doesn't smoke. - that the Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission shifts well but there is a weep where the speedometer cable enters the transmission. The engine has a remote oil filter. This '55 Bel Air Sport Coupe was the subject of an older restoration by a previous owner, who says he doesn't know the date or details of the restoration. - the Regal Turquoise and India Ivory paint quality is very good with just a 1/8-inch paint chip on the driver's-side front fender and a couple paint bubbles around the front turn signals. He notes a small area of surface rust near the window trim on the driver's side. He asserts the condition of the floors and frame is very good. The glass quality is good with no evidence of water leaks, who adds that all the lights work - The gray cloth and turquoise vinyl seat covers aren't the original style, but they are of good quality except for a 3-inch tear on the driver's side of the lower cushion by the adjusting lever (shown in the provided photos). The carpet is in good condition except for one small stain and the headliner is very good, with a working dome light. The original radio doesn't work and neither does the heater. - The brake system was completely rebuilt in 2017 and new shocks were also installed at that time. The rear shocks are air shocks. The car has manual steering but the wheel points straight with no play. Diamondback wide-whitewall radial tires were installed in 2017 (confirmed by late-2016 DOT date codes) and have only had 100 miles of use since then.- the wheels are in excellent shape, with no vibrations at speed. This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe is in Connecticut but has been registered in Maine since 1998, when the seller purchased it. Very little work has been performed on the car since the seller acquired it but he does have documentation for that work.
