Description
My uncle made many trips from Wyoming to Colorado from 1986 to the early 2000s. I have taken the car to multiple car shows and the Golden Super Cruise on summer nights many times. The car is very reliable and has never left me stranded. He believes the car had been repainted before his uncle got it but reports that much of the rest of the car remains in original condition. The car has always been garaged when not in use while in his family. The redesigned 1959 Cadillac exemplified Fifties glitz with low-slung bodies and soaring tailfins tipped with dual bullet taillights. The V8 was enlarged from 365 cu.in. to 390, and, this year, the Series 62 became the 6200. Power steering, power brakes, and Hydra-Matic automatic transmission were standard. The de Ville was a sub-series known as the 6300 that included coupe, sedan, and convertible styles. These models added dome lamps above each set of side windows, plusher leather/cloth upholstery and door panels, power windows, and power front seats. The 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville offered here (style code 59-6337) was one of about 21,900 made that year, which was nearly the same for the 6200 coupe. The four-barrel, 390-cu.in. OHV V8 was rated at 325 horsepower (gross) by the manufacturer when new. - the Cadillac's engine is original and is not aware of any rebuild. The car is said to start easily without hesitation and to run well. There are some weeps around the rear differential cover, and the rear main seal has had a weep since I have had it but not to the point for me to address it. (This can be seen in photos.) - that the tail shaft and seal was replaced about 500 miles ago and that there are no leaks below the Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission, which is said to operate properly. - the white car received paint and body work before 1986 but does not know that history. Regarding cosmetic defects, he notes various rock chips on the hood and roof, dents in the trunk lid molding, and says the back left rear bumper is slightly bent to the right with some trim/molding bent. The glass and windows are in good shape, with no cracks or scratches. Some molding on the side rear window needs replacing, but other seals are in fair condition. - surface rust on the underside of rear quarter panels, and some rust on the door bottoms. All lighting is affirmed to work as intended - According to the owner, the car's carpet is original, and he assesses it as in fair condition overall with some deterioration. The seats, upholstered in Dusk Pink cloth and leather, are original with some wear and deterioration on the top of the back seat. The power front seat functions as it should, who describes the headliner as fine. Some tears in the carpeting can be seen in the photos.- the speedometer and gauges function properly, but the heat does not work. The electric power windows are affirmed to work. The original AM radio turns on, but station reception was not good in his area of Colorado. -- that the Cadillac's suspension history is unknown. He states that the bushings are in fair condition with some signs of wear, and the shocks are currently good with no leaks. The wide-whitewall tires are old and will need replacing. Wheel covers are said to be in good condition. There are no vibrations from the wheels when cruising at highway speeds. The power steering works properly with no leaks, and the steering wheel points straight, adding that the wheel has the expected play for a car from this period. The power-assisted four-wheel drum brakes were serviced about 400 miles ago and have no issues. A mileage statement from 1983 and 1986 will be included in the sale. An American icon, this 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville appears to be a good cruiser with just a few issues that could be addressed while enjoying the car.
