Description
This truck started life as a 1974 Chevrolet Fleetside C20. According to its seller, the body was rust-free and came from Oregon to Massachusetts, where it was mated to a 1978 GMC K20 frame. The frame was repainted in 2002, while the body received paint in 2008. The VIN still corresponds to the two-wheel-drive pickup, and that extensive work went into the drivetrain, frame, and body before the truck was assembled. - The engine in this pickup is a Chevrolet 350-cu.in. V-8 that isn't original to either truck and has been driven about 2,800 miles since it was rebuilt. The photos show that it has been modified with an Edelbrock aluminum intake and an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, along with headers. - that the engine starts with two pumps of the accelerator, and has no smoke from the dual exhaust. The transmission oil pan suggests that the truck has a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic, which has a small leak at the output seal and shifts fine. - that this rust-free C20 body was shipped to Massachusetts from Oregon in 2002. In 2008, after the body and frame were joined, paint was applied to the exterior surfaces and it appears to remain in excellent condition, per the photos. Photos also show when the truck was first put together.- that the paint in the door jambs, inner doors, firewall, and inside the bed is original to the truck. He points out one small crack in the paint on the passenger's door above the side-view mirror and notes that he caught the garage door opening just enough to crack the paint, but not dent the door. The seller mentions that the seals are all in excellent shape. The body appears to be largely unmodified. The truck was painted without the lower portion of the body side and tailgate moldings, which is a unique look for a solid-colored truck. The front and rear bumpers are chrome, and there's a receiver hitch under the bumper. - Inside, the truck has its original-style tan cloth/vinyl upholstery. The seller points out one small area on the side of the seat bottom where the vinyl is cracked. The carpet matches the color of the seat and appears to be a quality replacement, with binding on the edges, which were both installed at the same time. - the carpet has a small mark about the size of a pencil eraser near the dimmer switch and the carpet is protected by black floormats. The door panels appear to be in very good shape, per the photos, with only some scratches on the woodgrain on the driver's side, and stretched elastic on the door pockets on both sides. The dash pad is typically very fragile on these trucks and susceptible to cracks and collapse around the speaker grille and the defroster vents, but this example appears to be very solid, in the photos. The instrument panel has the full gauge package minus the clock, and the seller reports that the gauges are all functional. The truck has its original AM radio, which is not working. - The chassis was from Massachusetts, and it had some rust, the seller notes, so he had the chassis sandblasted to remove any rust, and then coated in DuPont Imron black. Photos of the underside show that the chassis, suspension components, and differentials have apparently held up well, with only some slight surface rust bleeding through the spring leaves. The truck has power steering, which the seller indicates has no leaks, and the truck drives straight, with no steering issues. The suspension has a 6-inch lift, achieved with the springs in favor of lift blocks. The brakes are power-assisted disc/drums, and the seller reports no issues. The wheels are Ansen Sprint-style five-slot alloys, with the slots painted the body color, and they are mounted with BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/As, sized 35x12.5x16.5. They don't show date codes, and that they're older, but that he recently drove from northern Massachusetts to Connecticut with no issues. DOCUMENATION - this vehicle will be sold on a clean title in his name. Additional paperwork includes a stack of receipts. A lot of trucks end up with bodies married to different frames to ill effect, but this 1974 Chevrolet Fleetside C20 squarebody pickup with its GMC K20 frame appears to be well put together, and in excellent overall condition.
