Description
This custom-built 1980 Dodge B-series van is the epitome of artistic flair, the curator of the Museum of Automotive Icons, Inc. states. Its airbrushed medieval-fantasy-themed exterior sets it apart from others, and the interior is just as outrageous with a full-length bar, numerous insulated ice bins, richly textured bench seats that line the entire driver's side and rear of the van, dual flatscreen TVs, dual air conditioning units, and LED and fiber optic lighting. Its massive sound system rounds out the multimedia functions, making this Dodge the ultimate party machine. He continues, The museum bought it at a Mecum auction in 2017, it has been on static display for four years, and driven under 15 miles. It's being sold to make room for new additions to the display floor. According to the curator, The engine appears to be original to the vehicle [but it has not been confirmed via the VIN stamp on the block], and it's a 360-cu.in. [four-barrel] V8. I'm not sure if the engine has ever been rebuilt under prior ownership. It has been modified with an aluminum intake manifold, headers, and side-pipes, however. He advises, For cold starts, you may need to pump the gas a couple of times, but once the vehicle is warm, it starts quickly and idles smoothly. No excessive leaks have been noticed with exception of a couple of drops of oil occasionally after the van has been driven. The three-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears and a tandem axle setup was added out back. Its paint looks very good with extremely detailed professional airbrushed artwork on the exterior panels featuring fully armored knights, horses, castles, wizards, and mysterious orbs, the curator says. There are some minor scratches and paint chips, most notably on lower rocker areas, but no rust. The sunroof works, the glass is clear, and the door seals look good on the front and side doors and are soft with no evidence of water leaks, but the back door has a small area of the seal that is partially missing. All of the lights function, including those under the body - Big Boys Coach Builders did the interior, the curator informs. It's luxurious, and the two-tone tan vinyl seats, carpet, and headliner remain like new. There are two button-top caps missing on driver's tufted seat and one on driver's side door, he goes on to say. The directional signal arm is bent but still functional, and the gauges, radio/audio visual components, power windows, and the heater/defroster appear to work fine. Previously converted to R134a, the A/C systems are functioning, but may need a charge, he adds. - The last suspension service date isn't known, but there are no issues with the shocks or bushings, the curator says. Power front disc/rear drum brakes provide smooth braking. The aftermarket wheels are in very nice condition with no pitting or curb rash, and they cause no vibrations. Tire age has yet to be determined, but if they're found to be a decade old or more, they should be replaced. He confirms, the power steering is tight with no leaks, and the vehicle drives straight and rides like a 1980 van. This 1980 Dodge B-Series Custom Van gives a nod to the 1970s heyday when van customization was the ultimate form of self-expression, he concludes. This club VIP room on wheels will soon cater to a new owner.
