 Description
Plymouth started out building business vehicles out of passenger cars in 1935, following that up two years later with the Commercial Car, which was a conventional half-ton pickup based on the existing Dodge D8. The 1937 PT50 was powered by Plymouth's 201-cu.in. L-head inline-six. With a compression ratio of 6.7:1, the engine received its fuel mixture via a single Chandler-Groves carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 70 horsepower when new, with 145 lb-ft of torque. The engine reportedly starts and idles well, without smoke. The three-speed manual transmission shifts well, . A leak from the differential is noted. The engine bay presents as stock and generally clean. The PT50 was reportedly repainted in its original gray and black by the truck's second owner. - a few scratches but reports that the finish is in overall great condition. The cab seals are described as being in good shape. - any rust is limited to some chassis components. The cargo bed shows no dents and has a pristine wooden floor, along with wooden bed rails. The PT50 has one sidemount spare tire. The Plymouth's delicate grille appears to be undamaged, and all chrome looks to be complete and in very good condition.- the glass is in good condition and that all lights are functional. The underside appears to be very clean, with minimal, scattered surface corrosion - The gray vinyl seating surfaces show no damage and are reported to be in good condition. The floor's rubber mat appears to be in good shape. The headliner is described as in good condition. The steel dashboard appears to have full trim, and a spotlight is fixed at the driver position. - no issues with instrument functionality. There is no audio system, air conditioning, or heater. -- that the PT50 last saw chassis service several years ago under a previous owner. The components are reported to be in good condition, with no functional issues noted. The manual drum brakes are said to function well, and the seller states they can lock the wheels. The wheels, painted gray with blue pinstriping, are described as being in good condition. The tires were reportedly replaced a few years ago, but their DOT date codes cannot be seen in the photos provided. This 1937 Plymouth PT50 Commercial Car Pickup, from the first year of production, is described as a restored example with its original engine and transmission.
