 Description
Described as having been in the same family since new, and with an odometer reading of 45,275 miles, at the time of submission, that the seller asserts is accurate, this 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS454 is equipped with the numbers-matching LS5 454-cu.in. big-block V8 that it left GM's Kansas City, Missouri factory with. With an engine that is described as entirely original, the El Camino is reported to have undergone a single repaint some 25 years ago. Apparently unrestored except for the repaint, the El Camino is reported to have a little bit of rust around wheel openings and bottom areas of the vehicle, with possible rust repairs having taken place before the vehicle was repainted. This El Camino is powered by Chevrolet's LS5 454-cu.in. OHV big-block V8. The last three digits of the engine stamping suffix show CRQ, which was GM's code for the LS5 installed in Chevelle and El Camino models in 1970. Additionally, the engine is stamped with the last six digits of the car's VIN, confirming it as the original engine. With a compression ratio of 10.25:1 and a hydraulic camshaft, the brawny big-block received its fuel mixture via a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 360 horsepower when new, with 500 lb-ft of torque.- the engine in this El Camino is all original, with no rebuild history.  Multiple tries may be needed to start the engine from cold, with no smoke observed. No issues are reported regarding the Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. - any powertrain leaks are very minimal. The engine bay presents as stock and clean. The Green Mist finish is described as an estimated 25 years old and excellent, with the seller citing minimal scratches and dents as blemishes. The body seals are termed excellent, with no evidence of leaks reported. - rust in the wheel wells and bottom paneling, noting that the El Camino has been largely sitting for 50 years and may have undergone rust repairs prior to the repaint. All body panels appear to be straight, and the cargo bed is protected by a tonneau cover. The glass and windows reportedly have minimal scratches. All lights are described as being in proper working order. The El Camino's underside is generally clean, with surface corrosion on some components - The black vinyl upholstery on the bench seat appears to be in very good condition, with no visible cracks or tears. The carpet is reported to have lots of worn areas and minimal holes. The headliner is termed excellent, with no sags and functional dome lighting. The interior is said to have full trim, and the seller is unaware of any functional issues with the instrumentation. The factory AM radio reportedly works. Both the air conditioning and heater are described as being in proper working order. - The El Camino is estimated to have undergone no chassis service in the past 30 years. The seller is unaware of any leaks from the power steering. - all chassis components are believed to be OK. The power disc/drum brakes' pedal reportedly feels a little mushy. The wheels appear to be in good shape, and the Corvelle tires are estimated to be at least 25 years old. Reported to be a one-family example with low mileage that has been always garaged, this 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS454 is powered by the numbers-matching LS5 block V8 it received at the factory.
