 Description
Breaker, breaker'we've got a classic 1978 Pontiac Trans Am here with more going on than a truckload of bootleg beer. It's being offered by its first and only owner, who ordered it without the iconic hood graphic. Better still, it's a 400/four-speed car with only a reported 19,885 miles on the odometer and its original paint. It also has cold-blowing factory air conditioning, T-tops, and an 8-track player, and the seller has the original window sticker. The only things it doesn't appear to have are a CB radio and a gas receipt from a Texarkana truck stop. The Z in the Vehicle Identification Number indicates this Trans Am is an original 400 car'and the seller asserts this one retains its original engine, which has never been rebuilt.- that the engine starts easily and without smoke, and runs well. - the engine shows minor weeping, which may be attributed to the rear main seal, while no leaks or weeping is evident with the four-speed manual transmission or rear axle. The four-speed is also reported to shift easily and smoothly. - the Starlight Black paintwork on this Trans Am is original and in good overall condition. The car wore body-side moldings that were removed a few years ago, leaving a few small blemishes, and there are a couple of small door dings on the passenger's door, along with one small ding on the driver's door. - that he chose not to repair them, in order to preserve the original paint. Additionally, the finish on the panel behind the driver's-side window is dull and the seller notes it came that way from the factory. The car has the Fisher T-tops, which are said to be in great and leak-free condition, while the rest of the car's glass is reported in good condition, with no scratches or cracks.- the car was undercoated at the dealership when new and remains rust-free. This Trans Am's red cloth interior is original and in great condition, who notes the seats have no stains, holes, or tears. Likewise, the carpet is reported to be in very good original condition, with no stains or tears, and only minimal visible wear. The same goes for the door panels, dash pad, headliner, and unique engine-turned dashboard trim. All of the interior trim is reported to be intact and all of the interior lights and gauges are reported functional. The factory air-conditioning system and heater work, too, as does the original Delco AM/8-track tape player. The heater core was recently replaced, along with the original air-conditioning compressor. The original compressor is included. - - the chassis, suspension, and brake elements are in good working order, with no known needs or issues. The car is said to drive straight down the road, with no play in the power-steering system and no vibrations. The suspension system is said to be mostly original, including the shocks and bushings, which are said to show no signs of cracks or damage. The brakes are also reported to be in good working order. The car rolls on the original 15-inch snowflake wheels, which are reported to be in very good condition, with no apparent scratches, and are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial TAs that were installed in 2006 and are said to have less than 4,000 miles on them. Additional paperwork includes the original window sticker and service record. As the seller puts it, this is an original-paint, original-drivetrain, and original-owner 1978 Pontiac Trans Am'a low-mileage example, with a 400/four-speed powertrain, that's looking for its next stretch of Smokey-free highway.
