Description
The Ramjet fuel injection system offered on the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette's new, larger-displacement 283 engine breathed serious performance into the sports car that was finally finding its footing with enthusiasts. Road & Track's published report included a 0-60 time of less than 6 seconds. That's still a quick time today, 65 years later ' and the seller of this Venetian Red Fuelie concurs, noting, I can't believe how fast this car is. He has reportedly owned the car for 50 years, putting its restoration on the back burner, while he restored other classics. When this one was finally restored, it included NOS upholstery that he acquired years ago, saving it for this project. The car is said to be in magnificent condition, and it is said to be one of only 664 cars built in 1957 with a four-speed transmission. - the car has been driven only 200 miles since the restoration was completed in 2021. - Under the hood, is a correct 283 Fuelie V-8 engine that's backed an iron-case Borg-Warner four-speed manual transmission. The 283 and four-speed were new for 1957.- the engine number as F215EN and the fuel injection serial number as 1891. The engine is reported to run well, with a professionally restored and tuned fuel injection unit. There is no reported smoke upon start-up and no reported leaks with the engine, while the reportedly rebuilt transmission is said to shift smoothly. Wearing Venetian Red paint, with white coves, the body on this C1 Corvette appears very straight, with good panel gaps. The Ditzler Deltron paintwork itself is said to be like new and without blemishes or swirl marks in the finish. Additionally, the seller reports the chrome and exterior bright work, stainless and body emblems and glass are like new, too, along with the replacement convertible top. The exterior lighting and wipers are reported functional, and the car also comes with an unrestored auxiliary hardtop. - Inside, the red leather cockpit appears to show like new, , with matching door panels and instrument panel also said to be in very good condition. There's also all-new carpet , along with a functional heater and Wonderbar radio, which were options for the year. The material used to re-trim the bucket seats is said to be authentic 1957 GM material purchased years ago and saved for this project. The heater and gauges are reported functional, and the steering wheel also appears in very good condition. There is no apparent pitting in the bezels of the instruments. - - the floorboards and trunk are solid, and the frame is rust-free. The chassis, suspension and brake system reportedly have been restored to stock condition, with no known issues or needs. The car rolls on period-correct reproduction Firestone bias-ply tires mounted on factory steel wheels (painted red) with wheel covers. All are said to be in -like new- condition. Additionally, -the suspension and brakes are like new. The 283 engine and Ramjet fuel injection system help make the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette a true performance car and this example is to be a perfect runner. Further, the seller notes it was restored to concours standards, and that all of the components are correct for the car and have been restored and rebuilt beautifully.
