 Description
The Swept-Wing Dodges for 1957 appeared to be lower, wider, and ready for take-off even when standing still. They also featured new Torsion-Aire Ride, and could be ordered with a new extra-cost three-speed Torque-Flite automatic with pushbutton shifter. This 1957 Dodge Coronet Lancer'the Custom Royal emblems on the fenders were added by a previous owner'is representative of an older restoration that has been preserved well, and it also has working vintage aftermarket A/C, the seller states. I've had it for four years and take it to car shows, he goes on to say. It had previously been owned by elderly man in Florida. He passed away, and his nephew sold the car through a dealer in that state.  To best of my knowledge, the 325-cu.in. [OHV V8] engine is original to car, , but that hasn't been confirmed. He does note, however, that its code begins with KDS, which is correct for the 1957 Dodge. Though uncertain whether it was rebuilt in the past, this V8 is the standard polyspherical head engine used by Dodge, with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts with -new glass pack mufflers and tailpipes-  This Dodge was upgraded with an electric fuel pump, so it's relatively easy to start, he explains. Its original mechanical fuel pump is included in the sale. This engine doesn't smoke on start-up, it idles well, and has no leaks. The transmission is a Torqueflite three-speed automatic with push-button shift. The owner states it -shifts smoothly through all gears and has no problems.-  The car was reportedly repainted before it was purchased , who states, -There is no overspray anywhere, suggesting all trim had been removed.- The paint is excellent, the seller notes, and has no noticeable flaws, with the exception of one very minor mark near the lock on the trunk lid. I don't know when car was painted, but it was a very professional first-class job with no swirls or other defects of any kind. The seller adds, -A close inspection shows evidence of the original paint in one small area only, at the bottom of door jambs, below lower hinge.-  The condition of the body brightwork, the glass, and seals is also excellent, no rust has been found, and all the lights work. Some surface wear is evident on the door handles and rear quarter panel emblems, however - The bench seats are in -excellent- condition. The red vinyl and black cloth upholstery -fits perfectly, with no cracks or tears,- . The interior trim is complete, the carpet is excellent with no holes or worn areas, and I believe headliner is original, he comments. It doesn't sag, and the dome lights work. Aside from the fuel indicator, the gauges function properly, but the original vacuum tube radio doesn't operate. - About two years ago, new Coker whitewall radials were mounted on sandblasted and powder-coated wheels that appear new, and have excellent original spinner wheel covers. There are no vibrations on the road, or issues with the power drum brakes. DOT date codes from 2020 confirm the age of the tires. New front and rear shocks were installed, and the bushings are in good condition. Though the extent of previous suspension work is unknown, the rear leaf springs are clearly in good shape, the car tracks straight, the steering effort feels light, and the power-assisted system doesn't leak, he concludes. very little paperwork is available, as the car was restored before I bought it. This 1957 Dodge Coronet Lancer is ready to aid its new owner in reliving the fab Fifties from behind the wheel.
