Description
- this 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has had $33,000 worth of restoration and service work including some labor charges, for which the seller will provide documentation. It also features a full restoration just 787 miles ago, and a 1971 1.6-liter engine with upgrades. It's had some customization to the nose to make it appear more Porsche-like, , along with its recent repaint in Signal Orange with a White roof. - the bumpers have been extended 3 inches on each side behind the bumper guards to compensate for the widened body. - According to the AE engine number prefix shown in the engine photos, this engine is a U.S.-spec 1971 Karmann-Ghia Volkswagen 1,600-cc, dual-relief, dual-port four-cylinder engine, which delivered 50 horsepower (net) in stock form.- that during the rebuild, the engine received lots of upgrades, including performance kit engine parts (pistons, rings, crankshaft, etc.). The engine bay appears to be neat and well detailed, and the engine tin all appears to be present and in good shape, in the photos.- that the automatic choke works well and, when cold, the engine starts easily and settles into a 1,500-rpm fast idle. With one tap of the accelerator, that the engine rpm drops to a normal idle with no smoke. Photos of the underside of the engine show no leaks, chrome valve covers, and an exhaust that appears to be new.- that the four-speed manual transmission shifts perfectly. From the outside, the Karmann Ghia appears to be in excellent condition, with a bright shine to the Signal Orange paint, complemented by a White roof. All of the chrome trim appears to be in excellent overall condition, with no evidence of pitting or rust in the photos. The emblems all appear to be present and in complete condition, with no damage. The VW badge on the nose has been painted red.- that the significant exterior modification with the addition and fabrication of H4 Porsche headlamp lenses in place of the original lens, widening and lowering the front nose, and extending the front bumper. The front marker lights are also reported to be LED. - Inside, the upholstery has been significantly upgraded from the original vinyl seats, with gray tweed seating surfaces, surrounded by orange vinyl on the sides. The interior door panels have been similarly upgraded to match. The upholstery appears to be new, with no damage to report. The seats are low-back, but have headrests upholstered in the same tweed material.- that the radio has been upgraded from stock with a more modern, yet retro-appearing head unit, and there are speakers mounted in the carpeted rear package shelf.- that all of the gauges are functional. The interior of the cargo area has been upholstered with the same seat material, and features a large Karmann Ghia script.- I have provided numerous detail photos showing the underbody, the suspension, and the steering system. The Karmann Ghia features manual steering, and the seller reports no unusual steering wheel play. The suspension was reportedly completely rebuilt during the restoration with all new bushings and shocks. - the front disc brakes and rear drum brakes were completely overhauled, and that they work perfectly. The Karmann Ghia is equipped with steel VW wheels color-matched to the body, and equipped with brand new wide whitewall tires. Additional paperwork includes receipts for $33,000 worth of restoration and mechanical work completed in the last few years. This 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is visually striking in its orange-and-white paint scheme and has a few tasteful modifications from stock. This VW offers a great opportunity to purchase one of these stylish 2 with all of the work looking to have already been completed.
