Description
Jaguar's 1969-1970 Series 2 E-types are most easily identified compared to the Series 1 by the lack of glass covers over the headlights, the bumpers and taillights, all brought about by U.S. Safety Regulations. Production records show that the Series 2 sold a total of 18,448 cars in two years, compared with 35,854 Series 1 E-types in seven years'or 9,224 per year compared with 5,122 per year for the Series 1, underscoring the Series 2's popularity when new. This 1969 Jaguar E-type Coupe has been owned for 30 years and was showing 73,223 miles at the time of submission. - this Series 2 example in very good condition throughout, driven regularly, upgraded, restored and maintained in good working order. - the 4.2-liter twin-cam engine was rebuilt with a new block and head only 4,000 miles ago. Three Weber carburetors earlier replaced the original SU carbs, providing ongoing performance more in line with earlier pre-emission E-types in the seller's words. The car was resprayed about 15 years ago and the interior has been mostly restored. Jaguar's 4.2-liter XK DOHC inline-six engine featured a cast-iron block, aluminum-alloy cylinder head, 9:1 compression and two SU carburetors for the U.S. The engine was rated at 246 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 263 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm when new. - the engine was recently completely rebuilt with a new short block and head and continues to utilize the three-carb intake and the Weber carburetors that provide increased performance. A four-speed manual transmission provides power to the fully-independent rear end. An aluminum radiator upgrade has also been installed, as well as a spin-on oil filter and Holly fuel pump to replace the original SU pump. Other maintenance and upgrades made between 2021-2023, have included valve adjustments, carb tuning, plugs cleaned and gapped, a new fuel tank and battery. A small oil leak is noted at the front of the engine.- no rust on the exterior, that left the factory finished in silver. - he had the E-type repainted 15 years ago, changing to the current color that he identifies as Ford Blue Jeans Metallic. The finish is described as good, with very few blemishes , although the shine appears dim in some of the photos provided. All glass is identified as good, with no reported leaks. The minimal brightwork also appears to be complete and in good order. All lights are said to work - The seller writes that most of the interior has been replaced, including new carpet and under wool. The black leather seats are identified as original and display patina and creases appropriate to the 54-year age and 73,223 mileage of the Jaguar. The door, sill and interior panels also show age, but no cuts, tears or blemishes are observed in the photos. Damage is seen on the lower right front corner of the center console. The leather-covered dashboard also appears undamaged, with a full set of gauges and controls. - that the temperature gauge overshoots, but no other issues are noted with the rest of the instruments. Heavy wear can be seen on the choke lever and the knob below the choke. - the carpet as excellent, and the condition of the headliner can be seen in the photos. A new period correct radio is installed, but the speakers are not hooked up, who adds that the heater does not work and there is no air conditioning. UNDERCARRIAGE The semi-monocoque structure of the E-type, with a front subframe, four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes, evolved directly from Jaguar's Le Mans-winning D-type. The seller identifies that no modifications have been made from the original construction. - the steering, bushings and shocks all as good. Updates have included replacing all suspension bushings and mounting points, replacing the handbrake cable (which he notes needs adjusting), and disconnecting the warning light and the vacuum brake assist that are described as erratic. No issues are reported with the original 15-inch chrome wire wheels. The seller identifies the narrow whitewall radial tires as 12 years old, with 99% of tread. This 1969 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Series 2 Coupe as mostly original mechanically, with one respray, an updated interior and regular maintenance.
