 Description
Since 1978, the seller has owned this 350-horsepower, L79, 327-cu.in., 1966 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible. - , It's always been stored in temperature-controlled garage environments, driven modestly only in good weather on weekends, and has accumulated less than 9,000 miles since purchased. All components are in working order, and its overall body is fit and in good condition for a 57-year-old vehicle.  He continues, The 327's engine block is stamped CE 0091062 and has casting date J 10 8 (11/10/68) and casting number 3959512. Its serial number is preceded by the letters -CE,- an abbreviation code for Counter Exchange. The original block was exchanged and replaced under warranty by an authorized Chevrolet dealer and is date-coded correctly. The matching head serial numbers are 8782461 (date stamped B188 (02/18/68). - in December 2018, the engine was blueprinted and rebuilt. Its block was bored to clean up the cylinder walls, and the crankshaft was refurbished. New connecting rods, high-compression forged pistons, and hydraulic-lifter camshaft were installed, and the cylinder heads were rebuilt with new valves, springs, and valve guides. The original aluminum intake manifold and cast-aluminum Corvette valve covers (vertical line casting defect through the -O- has been polished out) were retained. The owner-added side-mounted exhaust system is comprised of all genuine GM parts. This engine build cost $15,500, and the car has accrued 500 miles since its completion. Replacement parts include the carburetor (3367 Holley); engine mounts; fan clutch; alternator (original available); starter motor; voltage regulator; radiator; overflow tank; master cylinder; horns; and relay. The engine compartment is in factory condition with many original brackets and hardware, he adds. A new Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch and flywheel assembly is ahead of the Muncie four-speed manual transmission and 3.70:1 ratio Positraction (limited-slip) differential. The latter two are said to be in excellent original condition. - the Sunfire Yellow paint has a high-gloss finish. He also relates, The VIN plate has the original rosette rivets and is correct. Additional original parts include the fiberglass body; emblems; outside door handles; windows; windshield wiper arms; driver-side rearview mirror; gas filler door assembly, cap, and emblem; and the convertible top hardware and frame. New canvas, frame bows, bow pads, tack strip, and weather-stripping have been installed to precise original OEM/GM factory specifications, he explains. The replacement grille's brackets are riveted properly, and like the glass and seals, it is in excellent condition. The bumpers, exterior chrome, stainless-steel trim around the windshield, and the door belt moldings are dent-free and in good condition. Properly operating are the retractable headlamps, all the other lighting, and the windshield wipers - In the black cabin, the dash pad, seat belts, center console; horn button; shifter shaft and knob; ignition keys; door panels; window handles; opening knobs; rear-view mirror; and trim are original and in good condition, the seller notes. The vinyl seat upholstery has been upgraded to GM leather. All gauges, the dash knobs, and the AM-FM radio are original, and are working, as is the heater. The optional teakwood steering wheel (N32) was added, but the original wheel is available. - - the suspension is excellent and stock except for aftermarket Bilstein gas shocks. The rear spring, trailing arms, and bushings have been replaced. The manual four-wheel disc brakes feature stainless steel-sleeved brake calipers and stainless-steel-braided brake hoses, and are also excellent.  New Goodyear tires, mounted on owner-added 1966 quick take-off aluminum wheels, have less than 400 miles on them. The car tracks straight and there's no play or vagueness in the [manual] steering. This car is fully documented with maintenance and restoration receipts, and the original assembly manual is included. This 1966 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible's preservation and known history are two benefits of buying a car from a long-term owner.
