Description
Chevrolet s 1955-1957 Bel Air Nomad two-door station wagons are among the superstars of the wagon world. Any Tri-Five Nomad is highly desirable, but a professionally restored/modified one of the caliber exhibited by this 1956 Pro Touring Nomad really draws positive attention. The car is a star by itself, but there is a racing celebrity connection bonus. - four-time world champion NHRA Pro Stock driver Erica Enders was a previous owner.
This 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad Pro Touring station wagon has won many awards, but it has also been driven on the Hot Rod Power Tour. - , This is a professionally built Pro Touring/restomod show car right down to every single nut, bolt, and washer.
With a compression ratio of 10:1 and factory Corvette aluminum cylinder heads, the GM ZZ4 350-cu.in. V-8 crate engine carried a 380-horsepower rating when new. The tuned-port-injection system has been polished. The ceramic-coated headers lead to a stainless exhaust system with polished mufflers. Polished stainless and aluminum components are seen throughout the highly detailed engine compartment. The recessed firewall appears to be totally smooth, except for the billet master cylinder. The custom serpentine belt system is a March product. Cold starts are a simple matter of turning the key and there is no smoke. The Turbo Hydra-Matic 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission has about 8,000 miles on it, a stock converter, and is said to shift okay, . - neither the engine nor transmission leak. The stylish Nomad body has been coated in two shades of a Mercedes-Benz gray paint. The door handles, hood ornament, and emblems were all shaved, but the iconic tailgate bars were left intact. The hood was peaked and louvered before the paint was applied.- the paint is very high quality, with no swirls, but admits, having put some miles on the build, that there are a few minor sand chips that you have to know where to look in order to find them. - there is no rust anywhere and all the weatherstripping/seals have been replaced. - that it has a hidden power antenna and a center LED brake light for safety. The grille is a custom billet item and the lighting features LED bulbs. Items like the bumpers and Bel Air side trim are either new or rechromed/show polished. The doors and power windows can be remotely operated with a key fob - The interior continues the two-tone gray exterior theme. A combination of light and dark gray cloth and vinyl cover the front bucket seats and the unique rear mother-in-law seat that's tucked between the carpeted wheel tubs. Three-point seat belts were installed for safety on the road. There are no issues with the upholstery. The functional gauges are from Dakota Digital and the audio system features a Panasonic head unit. Both the air conditioning and heater work well. Dynamat sound deadening material was installed underneath the upholstery and carpeting. The Ididit chrome-plated tilt steering column is topped with a billet steering wheel. The custom center console has three power ports. - The rear frame rails were extensively narrowed to accommodate the massive 20 x 14-inch Coys chrome C-5 wheels and Mickey Thompson Sportsman radial tires, sized 29 x 18 x 20. The front wheels are size 18 x 7-inch and mated to Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires, sized 26 x 8 x 18. - that the wheels and tires were purchased new from Randy Coy for $4,000 and have less than 200 miles on them. The differential is a narrowed Ford 9-inch equipped with 3.50:1 gears and suspended via Aldan coilover shocks and an adjustable four-link system with a track bar. The performance axles are from Strange Engineering. The front suspension uses 2-inch dropped tubular control arms with QA1 double adjustable coilover shocks and a sway bar. The updated power steering is a quick-ratio unit.- the suspension components are new with fewer than 1,000 miles on them and there is no steering play or issues with the Corvette front disc brakes or Cadillac rear disc brakes. Additional paperwork includes a briefcase full of receipts and related manuals. A custom fit five-layer car cover and bag which was reportedly only used once is included with the car. The seller shares that this vehicle was previously owned by Erica Enders, four-time NHRA Pro Stock champion. Included with the sale are nine Enders hero cards signed with the admonition to Take care of our baby. The seller will also include the listing from a previous auction sharing the Enders ownership claim. The car is available for inspection on the seller's lift and he may deliver it in an enclosed trailer up to 500 miles for an additional cost. He is selling solely to downsize his collection.
