Description
That it is, hands down, the single-most-potent example of the retro styling craze of the early 2000s distracts from the fact that the Chrysler (née Plymouth) Prowler was also a bold testbed for large-scale lightweight manufacturing. Using aluminum for its body panels, extruded and bonded chassis components, and cast control arms, the Prowler was hundreds of pounds lighter than the Corvette, 911, NSX, even the Ferrari F355 of the day. The 2001 Chrysler Prowler Mulholland Edition offered here is reportedly in like new condition, with hardly a single road trip's mileage on the odometer and still wearing its original tires. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, there's a Prowler sealed in a time capsule that will be opened in 2048, but this car appears to be a time capsule ready to be enjoyed today. When it debuted in 1997, the Prowler packed an aluminum-block 3.5-liter SOHC V6 with 214 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. In 1999, the engine was upgraded to the 253 horsepower and 255 lb-ft found in this car. Performance tests of the day clocked the more-powerful Prowler at 5.7 seconds to 60 mph and 14.3 seconds through the quarter-mile at a trap speed of 95 mph.- the rear-mounted four-speed automatic in this car shifts as designed, and there are no leaks anywhere under the car.- use only -pure- gasoline which is not ethanol based. Mulholland Edition Prowlers like this one wore Prowler Midnight Blue Pearl with a hand-painted light-blue pinstripe highlighting the car's beltline.- that, since he bought this Prowler in 2015, it has always been stored in a heated garage under a cover. The paint appears to be in excellent condition. There are just two tiny paint chips, the size of the head of a pin, pointed out in photos.- the dark blue top has not been exposed to rain or water, and seals tight all the way around. All lights are said to function perfectly - The styling inside the Prowler was no less dramatic than the outside. The lone gauge in front of the driver is a hot-rod appropriate tachometer, with the rest of the gauges residing in a body-color bezel in the center of the dash. Given this Prowler's extremely low mileage, it's no surprise the Agate leather interior appears to be in very good shape. Standard equipment on these cars included a factory six-disc CD changer, power windows, air conditioning, and remote locking. Everything is said to work. - It wasn't just its aluminum construction that made the Prowler chassis unique. It also used inboard coilover dampers up front, the tops of which are visible just aft of the battery and ahead of the engine in the nose of the car. This Prowler appears to be as clean underneath as it is up top, and it had the lower ball joints in its front suspension replaced 's local dealer in April of 2017 as recommended by a recall. The car reportedly drives well, with no excess play in the steering.- the tires are original, but they are 22 years old and should be replaced if the car is to be exercised regularly by its next owner. He also has the complete dealer service record, a CarFax vehicle history report, and the original window sticker. Exceptionally clean, this car must be one of the lowest-mileage Prowlers in existence. For anyone who missed out on the Prowler when it was new, this car is an opportunity to live the experience 20 years later.
