 Vehicle Description
A brilliant example of a perfectly restored 1966 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Series 1 Roadster, from a large collection, are the words used to describe this vehicle. The seller is assisting the owner, with the owner's permission, to get the vehicle listed online. He identifies that the comprehensive restoration took place over a number of years and was completed in 2012. Since then, he writes: The E-type has been displayed and maintained as part of a large, private collection with only 100 miles since the restoration. - the paint is outstanding, and the car is fitted with a new black leather interior and black top. The restored powertrain and undercarriage appear virtually as fresh as the exterior and interior in the photos provided. A set of original tools and the owner's manual are also included. Produced from 1964-'68, 4.2-liter Series 1 E-types combine the purity of the original design with additional benefits of a larger engine, better transmission, more comfortable interior, and upgraded electrics compared with the earliest Series 1 examples. An enlarged Jaguar XK 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was introduced in 1964, replacing the 3.8-liter six original to E-types from 1961-'63. With 9.0:1 compression and three SU carburetors, the 4.2 engine was rated at 265 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 283 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. A smoother Jaguar four-speed manual transmission also replaced the earlier Moss gearbox in 1964 and provided synchromesh for all gears.  The engine in this E-type 4.2 is believed to be original , with just 100 miles since completion of the restoration. Cold starts are said to be made with a full choke, several pumps of the accelerator and then depressing the starter button while keeping the accelerator engaged. The engine is reported to start every time. The transmission is described as shifting very smoothly. The seller remarks that minor oil leaks are expected from a British sports car, but this car maintains fluid levels well. As a later Series 1 E-type, this example maintains the original covered headlights, recessed grille-bar opening and slender bumpers unique to the original E-type design. The rare Jaguar Opalescent Maroon exterior finish was applied during the years-long restoration, following preparation of a rust-free body structure. The strongly presenting result can be seen in the photos provided. - the finish as remaining in excellent condition, with no chips but two small door dings. - : The dings are very small, hardly seen except under shop lights and the paint has not been scratched in either place. All bright trim appears as complete and polished to a clear shine. The glass is perfect . All rubber seals are identified as new at the time of the restoration, and no leaks are reported. A black convertible top is described as in excellent condition. All lights are said to work. No modifications from stock have been made to the exterior - Given the seller's statement that the restoration has been driven only 100 miles since completion, the black pleated-leather seats with contoured bottoms that replaced the early shell E-type seats in 1964 are described as perfect, with no blemishes. Premium grained vinyl covers all other restored interior surfaces, also as original. All interior trim is complete and described as excellent, including the wood-rim steering wheel and the dashboard. All gauges, switches, and controls are restored to original specifications, and are reported to work as they should. No radio is observed. The carpet and underside of the convertible top are also described as in excellent condition. The heat is reported to work, but there is no air conditioning. - The semi-monocoque structure of the E-type'with a front subframe, four-wheel independent suspension, and disc brakes'evolved directly from Jaguar's Le Mans-winning D-type race car, and in this example has been restored to original specifications. The unassisted rack-and-pinion steering is tight, according to the dealer. New shocks were reportedly installed at the time of the restoration, and both bushings and shocks are described as excellent. No issues are reported with the brakes. The chrome 15-inch wire wheels appear to show no blemishes in the photos. The seller writes that the 185/HR15 Michelin XVS radial tires are of unknown age and DOT date codes confirming the date of manufacture are not visible in the photos. This restored 1966 Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2 Roadster comes with the owner's manual, original tool kit, knockoff hammer, and jack will all be provided with the sale of the vehicle, as well as several restoration receipts and original books for the car. Production records show that 38,419 Series 1 E-types, with both 3.8 and 4.2-liter engines, were manufactured'more than Series 2 and V12 Series 3 E-types combined.
