 Vehicle Description
1962 MGA 1600 Mk II DeLuxe Roadster  This absolutely stunning MGA Mk II Deluxe Roadster has the distinction of being one of the rarest MGA's ever made. Aside from its very desirable Black/Red interior, only 290 MKII roadster examples were built out of a total of 391 Deluxe's from a total production run of 101,476 MGA's built from 1955-1962. The Mk II uses the more powerful 1622 engine with 93 HP and a manual 4-speed gearbox. The 1600 Mk II Deluxe is the most sought after MGA's to own because it combines all the fine attributes of the Twin Cam model, such as its competition chassis with knock-off pin-drive Dunlop wheels and four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes; but instead of the somewhat troublesome twin-cam engine, it has the ever-durable B-series 1622 cc engine, making it the one MGA that incorporates the best of everything. According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate (Birth Certificate), this MGA 1600 MKII Roadster was completed and dispatched to the USA on January 19, 1962. Its delivery was Black /Red interior. This is a matching nos. car with original engine and gearbox as it left the factory in Black / Red delivery. VIN: GHNL2/106512, Engine #: 16GC-U-H 6506 and the chassis ID plate on the car match the BMIHT certificate nos. which match the transferable registration that is in my name (triple matching).  This MGA still retains its original 1622 engine (93 HP) and original head with 16 stamped in the rear and 4-speed gearbox. This car had a total frame up restoration in 1999 by GP Abingdon Ltd and full engine rebuild (a reputable MGA restoration shop in Tarrytown NY) at a cost of over $40K at the time and later bought at auction by the previous owner in 1999 (and held for 25 years). Mechanicals: As stated, which is a very important fact, this car still retains its original 1622cc engine with redesigned combustion chambers and larger values making more horsepower than its predecessors. It also has its original 4 speed manual gearbox and higher ratio 4:1 rear end. This MGA is very very quick and an absolute blast to drive. The gearbox is quiet and pulls well in all 4 gears without any grinds, noise or hesitation, no white smoke or any major oil leaks.  Downshifting is perfect and the clutch pressure feels great too, and it is a pleasure to shift up and down through all the gears. One of the best driving British sports cars of its time.  This engine idles at 800 rpm and is a smooth runner and a very quick starter. Turn the key, pull out the choke and with one pull of the starter the car comes roaring to life. It revs quickly with a terrific exhaust note and settles in a perfect idle after a few minutes.  The oil pressure is strong at 50-60 PSI and running temp is about 190 degrees F when hot. The engine valves were adjusted and I installed new Champion plugs, wires cap and rotor. The cooling system runs cool with all new hoses and a 7lb cap. I also installed a new fuel pump and changed all the fuel lines and filter. This car still retains its original factory oil cooler only installed on Mk II cars. The electronic ignition and sport coil are such a Hugh upgrade for dependability and quick starts.  Brakes were completely rebuilt starting with a new Master Cylinder that feeds both the brakes and clutch. New front disc brake calipers, pads and flex lines. In the rear are new brake cylinders, pads and flex line. The car stops straight and can literally on a dime which is very impressive for a 62 year old car. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced along with new flex line. The clutch feels perfect and is an absolute pleasure to drive!!! Steering and shocks are in excellent shape. Its truly a Drivable Dream. Headlights were replaced giving it a very bright light, horn, wipers, signals, side lights and rear lights and brake lights and all gauges work as they should. Somewhere along its life the heater was removed. From what my research tells me it was owned from 1991-1999 from a gentleman who lived in La, so guess he had no use for a heater in that southern heat and removed it. You can literally drive this MGA 60-80 mph all day long and it will go to up 105 top speed. It has a very comfortable and relaxed cruise feel because of the higher 4:1 axle ratio and seems so much quicker than other MGA's that I have owned. It doesn't make any road noise or squeaks and just rides and runs very smooth.  I'm 6 feet 2 inches and 200 lbs and I fit very comfortably.  The steering wheel is a 17- inch English made Moto-Lita factory works type wheel (worth $1,000) and is rare to find these days, told its at least 30 years old). It has a new Black tonneau cover, original factory manual and original spare Knock-off pin-drive Dunlop solid wheel.  I will include with the car the vintage 1960's Hauer stop watch and clock used for period rallying and time trials. This piece is extremely rare and collectable.  The following are recent upgrades, new parts, included parts: ·         BMIHT certificate included (birth certificate)·         Vintage Original Moto-Lita Factory Works style wheel (17 inch)          Vintage Hauer Rally stop watch and Smiths clock (very collectable and desirable, worth estimated $1,000)·         New wiring harness (original type braided cloth)·         New clutch slave cylinder and flex hose·         Sport coil and Electronic ignition for easy and dependable starts.·         4 new Michelin XZX high performance tires·         New front disc brake calipers, brake pads and flex lines. New rear brake cylinders, rear shoes and flex line.·         Rebuilt SU fuel pump·         New fuel lines and filters ' I use 91 High Octane non-ethanol fuel ·         New tune up parts (distributor and ignition wires, cap, rotor, spark plugs, oil change and new oil filter ' I use Valvoline VR1 racing oil 20/50 with Zinc.·         New pair of period-style Plexi-Glass wind wings·         New Rubber MG logo floor mats·         Original 1962 New York License Plates Body: Body and Frame are solid and straight and accident free! The frame is really clean , been repainted when restored and is nice and straight. The car was completely restored frame up completed in 1999 at a very high standard quality at a cost of $40K from what I was told by the previous owner. The black paint is stunning and interior close to concourse quality. Trunk area, wheel wells, frame rails, inner and outer sills are all rust free and accident free. Doors close really nice and tight, door gap lines are as good as they get. Its really stunning in person. Paint is of a really high quality and nice gloss finish. It was restored 30 years ago so starting to show its age very gracefully with some patina as expected.  Front windshield glass was replaced.  Lights, lenses, and all chrome including front grill, bumpers and bumperettes, are in excellent condition.  Interior:  The interior in the car is stunning. Everything including carpet was replaced when the car underwent a full restoration. The leather seats are of a high quality leather, door panels, dash and scuttle (under the windshield), door caps, door panels are in remarkably great condition!!! Dash looks amazing with all working original gauges, buttons, and knobs.  All gauges are original Jaeger gauges and are in proper working order.  Closing: This is a 62-year-old car so it is sold AS IS with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold WHERE IS in Huntington, New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer. You are welcome to see and drive the car to insure 100% satisfaction.  The MGA MKII Deluxes are very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts based on rarity and as the last iteration of the MGA with its higher horsepower 1622 cc engine and 4:1 rear axle, 4 wheel disc wheels and solid knock off twin Cam Dunlop racing wheels. The spare tire is a knock off as well. These older restored cars are rapidly appreciating, which are all the rave at auctions such as Barret Jackson, Bonhams and Mecums. Hagerty Insurance Co has an agreed upon value of $60,000. MGA MkII deluxe roadsters sold on BAT range from $33K to $75K . This car is priced fair and with a reasonable offering price. Please feel comfortable making a reasonable offer and we can discuss.  I have a current valid transferrable New York registration. If you are a serious buyer and have any questions or need any additional photos or videos, please contact me.  Thanks for your interest. Dave.
