1955 DeSoto Firedome Special Coupe

Coming off the most dramatic restyling in the model's history, which saw DeSoto embrace the Forward Look of chief Chrysler stylist Virgil Exner, the Firedome represented the entry model to DeSoto's lineup. This 1955 DeSoto Firedome Special Coupe is one of 28,944 similar two-door hardtops built that year and is described as a three-owner example that is very original including paint, interior, and powertrain. Reported to still be highly presentable, the Firedome is described as having surface corrosion only. All features are said to be operable except for the factory clock. - this DeSoto was once on display at the Northeast Classic Car Museum. The Firedome series was powered by DeSoto's 291-cu.in. OHV V8, which received its fuel mixture via a two-barrel Carter carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 185 horsepower when new. - the engine in this Firedome is original to the car, with no rebuild history. The engine is reported to start after the accelerator is pumped once. The three-speed manual transmission reportedly works as it is supposed to. and is -quite rare- . The seller is unaware of any significant powertrain leaks. A small tear on the lower driver's seat is noted. The carpeting is described as in very good condition.- some stains to the headliner, which is said to have functional dome lighting. The two-tone dashboard appears to have complete trim and small controls and presents strongly. All instruments, including the factory AM radio, are reported to be in proper working order except for the clock. The heater is reportedly operable. The trunk has a plastic mat and presents as largely clean. - The DeSoto's most recent chassis service is reported to be lubricated in 2021.- the shock absorbers were replaced at the same time the American Classic wide whitewall tires were mounted, which was in 2019. DOT date codes indicate the tires were manufactured in August 2018.- no component damage or functional chassis issues. The manual drum brakes' pedal has proper throw and (is) not mushy.
