 Vehicle Description
The seller of this 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible, one of 18,025 made that year, bought it from an owner in Canada in October 2022. He then had the interior reupholstered in the correct leather material at a documented cost of nearly $7,000. The car is believed to have been repainted in San Matteo Red by a previous owner in 1990. The seller, who is a member of the large and active Cadillac and LaSalle Club, says he searched the club's membership directory to locate a low-mile 1968 DeVille Convertible, preferring red or blue. He found one in each color and bought both. He explains, My heart's desire is the blue, but everyone who sees both loves the red. I believe the car is in #2 or #3 condition, so it seems like a better one to sell. The 1968 Cadillacs continued a 1967 refresh of the major '65-'66 redesign. The '68 brought some (very) big news under the hood, where an all-new 472-cu.in. V8 replaced the previous 429. The seller points out that his car does not have one of the sore points of the 1968 refresh. The car's recessed windshield wipers were new that year and, he explains, were notorious for poor drainage that could cause rusting on the lower wheel well area. - this car shows no such issue, but he does not know if it had always been rust-free or if it had been repaired at some point. This beauty operates as it should. The 472-cu.in. V8 was rated at 375 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque, both impressive in the day certainly for suitable for this heavy car.- that the Cadillac's engine is original as far as he can tell from having the car inspected, and he has no knowledge of a rebuild. He points out that the valve covers were repainted in a non-factory light blue color. To start, pump the gas pedal several times, then after cranking a  few seconds, pump again, and she starts, he explains. (A cold start video is included below.) A small weep is indicated for the oil pan. The Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission is said to shift smoothly. - the 33-year-old paint as being in good condition with a few chips touched up, but no swirls, scratches, or dents. These are very small and can be seen in photos on the fender tops near the headlights. Included videos show the power convertible top operating properly.- a few small wear creases for the top. He indicates a small wiper scratch on the driver side of the windshield and a small chip on top of the driver's side window. All seals are in good condition with no evidence of leaks or rust. All lights function properly, the seller states - Like the car's exterior, the interior presents very well, with no observable flaws in the carpeting, trim, or the new red leather upholstery. The seller affirms the power front seat operates properly. The heat works, and all gauges work as they should, including a clock that keeps perfect time. The original buyer of this car in Canada had elected not to equip with factory air conditioning.- the car's original radio still works and that he installed a RetroSound replacement power antenna. - the speakers and balance adjuster work fine. The car is equipped with an air horn, separate from the original horn, that operates from a button on the lower left of the dash. -- that the vehicle's suspension was recently inspected by professional shop. The rear lower trailing arm bushings were replaced in April 2023, and the shocks are good. The car's original wheels have no pitting or curb rash, nor any vibrations, , and the original wheel covers appear blemish-free in photos. The tires are believed to be 30 or more years old and should be replaced for driving, regardless of tread condition. The power steering works as it should, but there's a small leak or weep from the steering gear box, the seller reports. His documentation also includes two separate wheel alignments performed in fall 2022, and the steering tracks straight. In his driving video, he briefly removes his hands from the wheel at highway speed to demonstrate. The power front-disc/rear-drum brakes work as they should with no pulling. Photos show a clean underside. This low-mile 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible wears a 1990 repaint that still shines and has a new leather interior. It seems to be just a set of new tires away from cruising down Main Street to turn heads with its striking presence and undeniable swagger.
