 Vehicle Description
Purchased in 2006, at the Pomona Swap Meet, this 1956 Ford F-100 long-bed pickup was purchased as a parts chaser and promotional vehicle for his trucking company. He had it refurbished in 2012, including a respray of Willow Green, along with new chrome, rubber, and glass ' and mechanical service of the powertrain and suspension. It is powered by a 272 V-8 engine and three-speed manual transmission, and has been reportedly painstakingly maintained over the years and works perfect. It is also said to handle the freeway well, with modern radial tires. I indicates it has been a life-long and rust-free California truck that was built in San Jose and still retains the California blue plates issued after 1968. - Ford's 272-cu.in. Y-block OHV V-8 engine and a three-speed manual gearbox drive this vintage Effie.- the engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and is said to start right up- after pulling the manual choke and pumping the gas pedal a few times. It never smokes, adds the seller, who also notes the gearbox shifts well. As for leaks, : If the truck sits for more than a month, it may show a drop or two under the oil pan, trans, and rear end, but if driven weekly, with regular fluid changes, it will not happen. This F-100 was repainted the original color in 2012, with PPG single-stage paint, who notes all of the body panels were removed for the paint job, except the cab, which was painted on the frame. The prep work found only surface rust, no evidence of previous accident damage, and no patch panels. After painting, all of the chrome, rubber, and glass was replaced or refurbished. The windshield was also replaced. - some paint chips, over the nearly 10 years of use since the truck was painted, but no dents. There are some reported waves in the bed front and tailgate. Additionally, side steps were added to the running boards. - The interior was also restored in 2012, with new foam under the vinyl-and-broadcloth bench seat cover. The truck retains a rubber floor cover, per its original equipment, and the replacement headliner remains in like new condition. There isn't much more in the way of creature comforts in a vehicle that was originally intended strictly for work, but it has a heater and it reportedly works. The gauges are functional, too, but the seller notes the water temp gauge is not reliable. It is augmented with aftermarket temperature and oil pressure gauges mounted under the dashboard. There's also a functional, Fifties-vintage vacuum/fuel efficiency instrument. - The chassis and suspension components have reportedly been restored and maintained in stock specifications, with no known issues or needs. Recent service includes new shocks, front and rear, in 2019. There is no reported play in the manual steering system, and the brake system is said to perform well, having had biannual inspections and service. The truck rolls on radial tires that are approximately five years old and are admittedly about two-thirds remaining. They're mounted on stock 15-inch painted steel wheels that are reported to be clean and without curb rash. Additional documentation includes receipts for work performed during the seller's ownership ' and that ownership experience has been one of regular driving with this apparently well-sorted classic Effie. This 1956 Ford F-100 long-bed pickup, with its stamping on the engine that coincides with the truck's VIN, suggesting a true numbers-matching vehicle, is described as a rust-free and good-running truck to drive anywhere. It is apparently enough to make one Willow Green with envy.
