 Vehicle Description
This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD 4x4 had a previous military career before undergoing a full rebuild and restoration in 2022. Its initial military service was in Germany until being sent to Kosovo as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission until 2011. It went back to Germany and was decommissioned in 2016 and spent the next few years at the Germany military's U.N. training school.- it was still in U.N. livery when he purchased it through a dealer in the Netherlands in 2021, becoming its first civilian owner.   - the vehicle was inspected and rebuilt in Spain before its return to Germany, where it was serviced by a G-Wagon specialist before passing the German TÜV certification for its title and registration.  Mercedes-Benz developed the Geländewagen (German for cross country vehicle) in the Seventies as a military vehicle, and in military service, it was usually referred to as the Wolf. - the OM602 2.5-liter diesel SOHC inline-five was inspected and cleaned, and the belts, tensioner, water pump, and valve cover gasket replaced. The engine was tested in the shop and then extensively on the road to ensure smooth operation and reliability, the seller states.- there is no excess smoke at start up and that the engine has no leaks or weeps. The drivetrain was disassembled, inspected, and refurbished as needed, and the five-speed manual transmission shifts properly, he explains. The 4WD drivetrain employs a locking center differential, with manually locking front and rear differentials. - the truck is rust free and was painted in 2022. The vehicle was stripped down to the frame, and all disassembled components were inspected, rebuilt, refinished, or replaced, as necessary. The work included media-blasting major components down to bare metal to remove any corrosion. Rust-inhibiting primer was applied and select components, including the frame and trailing arms, were powder coated. Other metal parts, such as body panels and drivetrain-component housings were sprayed with premium automotive-grade paint, . Wheel flares and sheer rails were added, and the exterior was painted in a Mercedes off-white color that has no blemishes. New LED front and rear lights were added, as were metal guards for the fender-mounted front signals. All lights are affirmed to work. The original jerry can was replaced. A new black fabric soft top was mounted on the frame. - in a heavy downpour, there can be some minor leaks. The glass quality is good with no scratches or cracks, and all seals were replaced. He indicates some minor gaps in the seals on the door frame - According to the owner, the car's carpet is all new and the rear cargo area features marine-grade wood, which is also covered by new, removable carpeting. All the tan leather upholstery (seats and door trim) was custom installed by a craftsman in a small village just outside of Seville, Spain. The passenger's grab bar, steering wheel, gearshift, and differential control lever were covered in black leather. All seatbelts and seat adjustments are affirmed to work. The heat is functioning, and the same for the gauges. - the speedometer needle can be bouncy when first accelerating but resumes normal function. A custom center console with beverage holders was installed. The vehicle has a new Sony stereo with Bluetooth and USB ports installed in the front and for the rear passengers, for multiple, simultaneous charging of personal devices. - The vehicle is fitted with all-new heavy-duty suspension and a 40-mm (1.6-inch) lift kit from Trailmaster, including the shocks. The original trailing arm bushings were replaced with polyurethane bushings. New Cooper Discoverer AT3 Sport 2 tires were fitted, including the spare, the seller states, but DOT date codes could not be seen in the photos.- no vibrations from the wheels when driving. The brake system is described as fully overhauled with new components.- the power steering has no leaks and tracks straight. Included with the sale are German TÜV documentation, a full military service history, receipts for work performed in the U.S., a full list of items purchased for the build in Europe, photographs of the build process, German military transfer papers, and bills of sale. For those looking for a genuine, military-proven Geländewagen, this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD 4x4, recently and fully refurbished for civilian duty, is proud to show its discharge papers.
