 Vehicle Description
Built by the Lambert brothers beginning in 1908, and earning its reputation via multiple cross-country odysseys that same decade, the Regal was known as the Baby Mercer for its comparatively affordable pricing and significant performance. About a dozen copies of the Regal, which ended production in 1918, are believed to survive today. This 1911 Regal Twenty, so named for its engine output, is described as a complete, operational car being offered for sale for the first time since 1955, and believed to have been restored during the 1960s.- he has known the car since his teen years, adding that it participated in Glidden tours and even climbed Pikes Peak in the 1970s. Known as the Regal Underslung for its inverted springs positioned above the frame rails, this Regal is described as a well-preserved car. The car's serial number corresponds to a stamping on one engine mount. The four-cylinder engine was rated by the manufacturer at 20 horsepower when new.- the engine has been converted to electric start, with a 6-volt generator, and it is said to start reliably with either the starter or hand crank once the primer cups are filled with gasoline. The seller adds that the four-speed manual transmission will shift properly but recommends that the cone clutch leather facing be replaced to allow proper -shifting of gears.-- there are no visible powertrain leaks. The engine bay appears to be generally clean, per the provided photos. The age of the paint is unstated, but the seller reports it to be in overall good condition, with scratches, chips, and other blemishes.- the folding top is in good, functional condition, with leather straps for securing it to the car. The body wood is in apparently good condition, with no rot reported, allowing the doors to close properly.- the Regal is free of rust and body filler. The windshield, with a brass frame, is reported to be in good condition. The brass headlamps are said to have been converted to 6-volt electrical operation, with an electrical brake lamp. The cowl lamps are fueled by kerosene. All brass appears to require polishing. The underside looks to be acceptably clean, with some grime, grease, and surface corrosion visible in the photos. - The button-tufted leather dates to 1955 and is reported to remain in good condition, with no tears. The wooden floors are properly covered with aluminum tread plates.- that the voltmeter and cable-driven speedometer are both operable. A central magneto switch controls the engine spark. An exhaust whistle is activated by a foot pedal, the seller notes. - The wooden wheels are reported to be in very good, undamaged condition, and are mounted with tires believed to date from the 1970s. The chassis is said to have received regular lubrication. The mechanical drum brakes are reported to be capable of stopping the car. This 1911 Regal Twenty, with uncommon rarity, is described as an older restoration that is complete and functional.
