 Vehicle Description
Purchased in fall 2021 as a project for the retired owner and seller, this 1938 Ford Deluxe V8 Woodie Station Wagon was reportedly acquired from an owner who'd had the car since 1962. The seller's goal was to bring the car up to daily-driving capability, so that it could be used for touring and shows, but not make it a 100-point concours contender. That refurbishment has included a few upgrades to make the car more suitable for modern traffic, including a change to juice brakes from the original mechanical-only binders. There's also a more-powerful 100-horsepower flathead V8 engine under the hood. It is ready for immediate road use and will pass a state inspection.Originally equipped with a 221-cu.in., 85-horsepower L-head V8, the previous owner reportedly had it replaced with a 239-cu.in., 100-horsepower L-head engine from a later Ford model. There's also a plate indicating it was rebuilt by a Ford-authorized rebuilder in Boston, and it includes the bearing specs. Additionally, the seller notes to turn the key, slip the steering lock lever switch, and push the starter button and this results with the classic flat head Ford starter growl. Ignition is instant  There are no known leaks and the complementing three-speed manual gearbox also reportedly shifts well. Recent parts replaced or refurbished to make the car roadworthy reportedly include the distributor, carburetor, generator, radiator, and exhaust system.- extensive restoration of the body and application of the correct Dartmouth Green exterior color for this classic Ford. There are no reported chips or scratches in the paintwork, but the seller reports two spots on the left-rear of the car where the finish was burned down to primer during polishing. Bodywork reportedly included new floorpan patches, while the engine compartment was also cleaned up and painted green, along with the rest of the body. As for the wood body components, the seller reports new maple rail pieces and birch panels were installed. The roof was also replaced, including new rails and proper grained vinyl. Additionally, 11 of the car's 13 glass panels were reportedly replaced and all the rear-side windows are suspended in new channels. There are also new front door hinges, new bumpers, and new inner grille molding, while the other exterior trim was refurbished and polished. There is new weather stripping all around. All the exterior lighting reportedly works normally - The tan vinyl-trimmed interior is to be have been restored, too. As an original commercial vehicle, the cabin's amenities are comparatively sparse, but all appear in very good condition'and they include a dash clock. All three seats were reupholstered with grained (school bus pattern) vinyl, and the front floormat is said to be a correct replacement. The wooden door panels appear to be in great shape, along with the steering wheel. There are a couple of missing items, including the dome light and one of the interior window cranks. A non-original crank is in its place. The glovebox lock cylinder does not have a key and the electric motor for the windshield wipers was reportedly replaced during the restoration. - The chassis, suspension, and braking elements are reportedly in good order, with no known issues or needs.- the brakes were upgraded to hydraulics with new brake lines, wheel cylinders, and more during the restoration. The fuel lines were also replaced and an inspection of the gas tank after the car's purchase seemed to indicate it had recently been replaced. - that while the car is roadworthy, the tires are old and show aging/cracking in the sidewalls and should be replaced. They're mounted on stock-type commercial wheels adorned with beauty rings. The wheels appear in good condition. The distinctive appearance of the woodie wagon body makes this 1938 Ford Deluxe V8 Station Wagon an iconic classic, with its restoration aimed at making the car drivable and enjoyable. With a new set of tires, the seller asserts it will be ready for the road.
