 Vehicle Description
This 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible with GT visuals added is not a show car, but is a high-class driver that runs really well, the seller asserts. Purchased from a Hemmings print ad in 2001, it then received a comprehensive restoration, and , No two pieces were left together except for the engine. This pony car is a lot of fun, and it has been garage-kept, very well cared for, and driven limited miles since its completion. - the A-code, four-barrel, 225-horsepower, 289-cu.in. OHV V8 is original to the car, but that hasn't been further explored via date codes. He also notes that it has never been rebuilt, it starts well and idles rough until it warms up, but there are no leaks, smoke, or oil consumption. A new clutch was installed in 2001, the code-5 four-speed manual transmission shifts easily, and per the code-1 on the Warranty Plate, the rear axle contains 3:00:1 gears and a standard differential. Though it was repainted 22 years ago, this Mustang's Wimbledon White finish remains in excellent condition, , with no rust, swirls, blemishes, scratches, dents, or chips. A new power top was installed that same year, and it functions properly with no missing components, open seams, or holes. It rarely leaks in heavy rain along the header as most do. A tinted windshield was installed, and the rest of the glass is clear. The door and trunk weatherstrips were replaced, and there is no evidence of leaks. All the lighting works, and the GT emblems, stripes, fog lights and bars, and the through-the-valance exhaust and tips were added, as was the luggage carrier - During the 2001 restoration, the code-25 red vinyl standard interior was replaced with the Interior Décor Group (aka Pony interior) in red and white vinyl upholstery, and there are no cracks or tears. A new carpet was installed at that time and has held up well. Additional options put in during the restoration include A/C that was updated to R134a and an aftermarket compressor, and the Rally Pac. No accuracy issues exist with the gauges except for the clock, the seller notes, and the heater and AM radio work. The console was already there, and an aftermarket steering wheel was added. - Though the suspension components are 22 years old, the seller reports that the bushings and shocks are in good condition, with no leaks, cracks, or damage. The power front disc/rear drum brakes, work well, the 14-inch steel wheels and wire wheel covers have no issues, and the five [Firestone] redline tires date back to the time of the restoration. That makes the tires 22 years old, so replacement is recommended if the car is to be driven by its next owner. No leaks or play are evident in the power steering, and the car tracks straight and rides fine. I can provide copies of some invoices and the total amount spent. This 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible still wears its older restoration well, and has been augmented with a GT appearance and additional factory options.
