 Vehicle Description
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur was the long-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, with both models debuting in 1980. The Spur rides on a 124.5-inch wheelbase, a four-inch stretch over the Spirit that added more rear seat legroom. The Silver Spur featured unitized body construction and a self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension technology licensed from French carmaker Citroën. This 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur hails from the final year of the first series of this luxury sedan. The owner purchased the car seven years ago, using it only for the occasional trip. The title indicates she added about 2,600 miles in those seven years. Following an after-purchase inspection by a Rolls specialist, she had new tires installed. She reports having had an oil change done since then. The car has been kept under a cover in a garage when not in use, and not driven in rain. It purrs along the highway. It's extremely comfortable, but I no longer use it. The striking black/tan color combination turns heads every time she drives it. People always want to take photos of it when they see it. The 6.75-liter OHV V8 used Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection. Although Rolls did not publish output figures, Car and Driver reported 175 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. The owner believes the engine to be original and not rebuilt. S it starts right away. There are a few drops of oil when the car sits for months. It appears to be mineral oil, but I'm not sure where it comes from. The General Motors Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission is said to shift smoothly. - the Silver Spur's paint is original and in good condition, with no swirls. There are a few minor chips from gravel that have been touched up. The Everflex vinyl roof covering appears to be in good condition. The glass and tinted windows are in good shape, with no scratches or cracks. There is a minor windshield chip in the far-right passenger corner that is covered by a sticker out of the line of sight. The seals are fine with nothing missing and no signs of leaks.- there is no rust on the car. All lights and signals are working - The plush interior presents well in the provided photos. According to the owner, the carpeting is in good condition, and she believes floor mats have always been present. The car comes with standard Rolls-Royce floormats and aftermarket sheepskin floormats. The burled wood trim appears in good condition throughout. The leather seats appear in good condition, with the driver's seat showing signs of use.- a very tiny hole in the driver's seat backrest, on the lower left. The rear seats of this long-wheelbase sedan have footrests and fold-down burl trays. The headliner is described as excellent with no sagging.- the automatic climate control system (heat and A/C) is working, as are the power windows, locks, and exterior mirrors. All gauges and indicator lamps are said to work as designed, and there is an older aftermarket CD stereo installed. A Motorola car phone in the passenger armrest compartment that likely dates to when this car was new is no longer functional since the technology is obsolete. The trunk appears unused. - The seller doesn't know the Silver Spur's suspension service history, but she reports no known issues. The Vogue Goldline Wide Trac Touring tires, sized 235/R70-15, were installed seven years ago at 66,200 miles (2,000 miles ago) and show 2016 DOT manufacturing date codes. S the car has been stored indoors. The Rolls-Royce wheel covers have no pitting or curb rash. She reports no vibrations when driving. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is said to track straight with no excess play in the wheel. The four-wheel disc brakes, which use dual calipers at each front wheel, are said to stop the car properly. S that after starting the car, you must wait two minutes until dashboard brake system indicator lights go out before driving, signaling that the brake system has built sufficient mineral oil pressure. The system requires a driver to anticipate stopping and reports seeing a few drops of oil when the car sits for months. It appears to be mineral oil but I'm not sure where it comes from, adding that the trunk has a built-in storage area for extra mineral oil. It's a Rolls-Royce, not a sports car and it needs to be driven as such. This 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, one of the grandest luxury sedans on the road when new, presents well and is said to drive as though you are in the lap of luxury.
