 Vehicle Description
Unlike its future namesakes, the Dodge Dart was a comparatively large car in 1960, riding on a 118-inch wheelbase, with the Phoenix series representing the Dart's top trim level. This 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix Convertible is one of the 70,700 cars Dodge built in the Phoenix series across four body styles during the model year. This example is described as a well-optioned car, fitted with a power-operated convertible top, plus factory power windows, steering, brakes, and front seat. It's said to have been extensively refurbished 10 years ago with a new top, new interior, and a conversion to front disc brakes. The engine in this Phoenix is Dodge's version of the 318-cu.in. OHV V-8, dubbed the Polyspheric engine in Chrysler parlance. With a compression ratio of 9.0:1, the engine was rated by the manufacturer at 230 horsepower. The engine in this Phoenix is said to be original to the car, with no known rebuild history, and fitted with the optional Carter four-barrel carburetor. The engine is said to have been fitted with a rebuilt generator and a spin-on oil filter, plus dual exhausts. Both the engine and pushbutton-shifted three-speed automatic transmission are said to operate properly, although the seller reports the transmission kickdown will need adjustment. A newer Chrysler distributor with PerTronix chip has been installed, but the original parts will be included with the car.- that the radiator was recored in 2013. The engine bay presents as stock and generally clean in the photos.- that the Dodge had new primer and paint sprayed over its existing finish before he acquired the car. The paint is said to have been redone on both rockers, the left-side quarter panel door jamb, and the upper grille support. Some minor chips are noted. - the Phoenix is free of rust. A new M&T Manufacturing convertible top, installed in 2010, is said to remain in good condition, although one gasket is reportedly missing. The door and trunk seals are also said to be in good condition. The chrome appears to be complete, undamaged, and in good unrestored condition. The glass is reported to be in good condition, with all exterior lighting termed functional. The underside is generally clean in the photos - The seats and interior are reported to have been redone in 2010 with a full kit from SMS Auto Fabrics, which presents today in as-new condition. A carpet kit from Chester & Herod Auto Interiors was installed at the same time and presents today as being in very good condition. The dashboard appears to have all its trim intact and to be in overall good condition.- the factory temperature warning light is inoperable. Sunpro engine gauges installed below the dash are said to be functional. The car has its factory AM radio, but the seller has installed an auxiliary RediRad audio unit. The power window lifts and heater are termed operable. The trunk floor appears to be free of corrosion in the photos. - The Phoenix is now equipped with front disc brakes that are said to work well. One upper control arm is said to have been replaced in 2010, followed by all four shock absorbers. The power steering box is reported to have been rebuilt in 2012. The tires are said to be nine years old, with good tread remaining and no rot. . Additional paperwork includes a copy of the 2006 Ohio title that corroborates the nearly 68,000 miles reported and a binder of receipts for parts ordered. This 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix Convertible is a high-option car with an extensive refurbishment inside and out.
