 Vehicle Description
This 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is one of 7121 produced. The '71 Corvettes were little changed from the '70 models because Chevrolet treated them as an extension of the shortened 1970 production run. Octane requirement changes resulted in a base 350 with an 8.5:1 compression ratio, as is the case with this car. A complete frame-off, original-specifications restoration was performed on this numbers-matching Corvette in 1999 and the car has only been driven approximately 5,000 miles since then. The car has been shown and judged, which explains the two sets of wheels and tires, one set for driving and one set for shows. The seller backs up his opinion of the car's restoration and current condition by saying, The car is show ready. The 350-cu.in. small-block, rated by Chevrolet at 270 horsepower when new, is original to the car, as confirmed by the engine stamping image in the photos. It's seen an estimated 5,000 miles of use since the car's restoration, and the engine is like new and doesn't leak. Cold starts of the carbureted engine require a few accelerator pumps. There is very little smoke on the initial startup and no subsequent smoke. The Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission works like new with no issues, . The rear axle ratio is 3.08:1. This 1971 Corvette convertible received a body-off restoration in 1999 when it was repainted its original Mulsanne Blue color. The car has been garage kept since then, so the paint is in excellent condition in the seller's opinion. There are a few small blemishes and some barely visible spider cracks in the front fender where it curves to the hood. A couple small paint chips have been touched up. All the seals are pliable and in like new condition, with no leaks. - the glass is perfect, as is the convertible top, and there is no current rust. The flip-up headlights work properly. The luggage rack was an option when the car was new. -- the seats are in excellent condition, with no cracking or drying. All the adjustments work, and the carpet is in very good condition, with very little wear, as it has been protected by floormats. All the interior trim is present, including the original stereo which has replacement speakers. All the gauges are said to function properly. The air conditioner works, and was upgraded to modern refrigerant. The A/C clutch and compressor are reportedly new. - The suspension was completely restored in 1999, so everything is in show condition . The bushings are pliable, and the shocks are in excellent condition, who adds that the steering is as new with no play and only a very small leak in the power-steering hose. The brake system received new calipers, rotors, pads, and a new master cylinder. The brakes are non-power assisted but they function like new. The wheels exhibit no vibrations at speed and there are two sets of tires'Goodyear Eagle GA steel-belted radials of unspecified age, with 5,000 miles of use, and the original-style bias ply tires that were only installed for car shows. This numbers-matching 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible reportedly belonged to the seller's relative, who only drove it 5,000 miles before storing it for the past 10 years. The car is being offered because the seller wants more space in his garage. The car comes with a photo binder and a history of its restoration, along with reference materials.
