 Vehicle Description
This final-year 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III is finished in Colorado Red and was purchased in 2010 , who provided a comprehensive refurbishment in the ensuing 11 years. With its original 2.9-liter Inline-6 providing 150 horsepower and well-appointed cockpit, this BJ8 represents the last of the powerful and luxurious Big Healey roadsters. Stored indoors in a climate-controlled environment, it shows 29,776 miles on the odometer, a number that the seller shares can be traced back to the previous owner, a friend, who owned it for the 34 years prior. The Mark III features BMC's C-series engine, and overhead-valve inline-six renowned for its reliable engineering and performance capabilities. With an 83.4 mm bore and 88.9 mm stroke, total displacement checks in at 2,912 cc and by leveraging two free-breathing, professionally rebuilt SU HD8 carburetors, output was rated at 150 horsepower when new. In this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000, the seller states that the original engine is numbers matching and has never been rebuilt and that small oil leaks are present. Thanks to modern electronic ignition, new wiring harness it is said to start easily and runs well. The four-speed manual transmission and overdrive are both original and are said to be operating properly with smooth shifts. The Colorado Red paintwork was re-applied prior to the current owner's acquisition and new chrome bumpers were fitted. Meanwhile, the original grille, headlight rings and other brightwork were refinished to a high luster. The soft top was replaced as well as the plastic backlight and it properly folds into place,- there are no major blemishes and that the glass, lamp lenses, emblems and other exterior details are in very good original condition, having benefitted from protective indoor storage when not on the road over most of its life - A comprehensive restoration of the black interior started with the installation of modern sound insulation and continued with new vinyl upholstery (kit from Moss) and the original leather inserts were installed over new foam on all four seats. Door panels, sills and carpet have been replaced with new. The prominent three-spoke steering wheel with polished aluminum spokes presents itself at the ready for the driver as the reportedly fully functional Smiths gauges provide all vitals from the engine room. The manual transmission is operated by the floor-mounted shifter that is topped with a wooden shift knob and sits aft of the non-functional heater controls. In addition, the seller relates that other functions within this Mk III are in good working order, including the manual window lifts and original two-knob radio. - The double-wishbone front suspension is paired with the original solid live axle at the rear to provide agile roadster performance. Weighing in at 2,550 pounds, this final Mk III-generation 3000 relies on many of its original suspension components that have been refurbished to perform well. Several items such as the front bushings and bearings are noted as having been serviced within the past few years while the original shock absorbers are said to still function fine. The steering system and front disc/rear drum brakes are reported to respond to all inputs with minimal play. The 60-spoke wire wheels are original knock-off-style replacements and are wrapped in Kuhmo Power Star tires, sized P165/80R15 that show 2008 date codes. Additional paperwork includes numerous receipts and images that document the restoration. When it comes to British roadster, there is nothing quite like a Big Healey, and this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 represents the last of the breed and the most refined version.
