 Vehicle Description
In the same family from new until 2014 and then passed on to family friends, this 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible has reportedly spent all of its 51 years between Seattle and Olympia, Washington. It represents the second generation of Cadillac's innovative luxury cruiser, with its massive V8 engine driving the front wheels. This example, in Ice Blue Firemist over blue leather, is one of only 7,975 convertibles built for the year and the body is rust-free, with mostly original paint, and that it runs and drives well. Even the air conditioning is said to blow cold. The history of the car is known back to the original owner, who is assisting the car's owner with listing it for sale.Unconventional when compared with contemporary front-wheel-drive layouts, the Eldorado's big 500-cu.in. OHV V8 is mounted in a north-south arrangement rather than transversely. - it is the car's original engine and that it starts easily with the automatic choke and runs perfectly. There's no smoke upon cold starts, notes the seller, who points out minor oil seepage that leaves drops on the floor. The engine is paired with a Turbo Hydra-Matic 425 three-speed automatic transaxle that reportedly shifts normally. The Ice Blue Firemist finish on this Eldorado is to be in very nice condition and largely original, with known paintwork on the left-front fender and a couple of other small areas. There are also some small imperfections, notes the seller, including paint chips and other road wear from half a century cruising the Pacific Northwest, as well as a small ding behind the driver's door. The blue convertible top is also believed to be original and reportedly operates as it should, but the second bow is said to get misaligned when the roof closes (as stated in the walk around video). There's also a reported small tear in the upper-right corner of the rear window and some material shrinkage above the window. The top does not leak and looks extremely nice for its age. Additionally, all the car's glass is said to be in beautiful condition, with no reported cracks in the windshield, and the seals are also said to be good condition, with no leaks. All the exterior lighting reportedly works normally - Inside, the cavernous, leather-trimmed cabin appears in very good, very clean, and believed original condition, apart from a newer radio.- there are no known holes or rips in the seat covers and the carpet remains in very nice shape, with some fading noted in the edges outside of the floormats. Similarly, the door panels and expansive dash pad appear in very good condition, with no apparent splits aside from cracking on the driver's door arm rest. The long door pulls on the door panels also appear in very good condition.- all the gauges are functional, the air conditioning system blows cold, and the power locks and windows also work. The original radio has been replaced with a modern Sony head unit that has satellite-radio capability and a USB port. - - the chassis, suspension, and braking components are in good condition, with no reported issues or needs. There's no known recent history of suspension or brake work, but the components are said to work well. The car rolls on Michelin tires that show 2002 DOT date codes and will need to be replaced before the car is driven any distance. They're mounted on the original wheels with full wheel covers. The photos show a few apparent scuffs on the covers, but they appear in overall very good condition. There are no reported vibrations with highway driving. The seller is assisting the owner of the vehicle, with his approval, to get the vehicle listed online. Additional documentation for this 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible is said to include the original bill of sale, previous registration slips and the car's original books. It's beautiful of this largely original and innovative front-drive Caddy. In its day, there was nothing else like it.
