2001 Chrysler Prowler

Audacious, ambitious and whimsical, the Prowler was a concept car come to life ' an auto show fantasy that made the rare transformation to showroom reality. This 2001 Chrysler-badged example (the Prowler was born a Plymouth, but re-branded when Plymouth sailed into the great automotive beyond) is a virtually showroom-new example, offered by the original owner, who has managed to put a mere 17,137 careful miles on it over the last 20 years. It's never been driven in the rain or left outdoors. It is like new. It is also a pretty rare example in its silver color. Only 106 of the '01 Chrysler models were produced in the color. That's out of 3,142 Chrysler models that year; and about 11,700 combined Plymouth and Chrysler Prowlers produced for the entire five-year production (it was launched in 1997, but there were no 1998 models). Given the modest production numbers, exceptionally well preserved examples such as this one can be tough to find. - Although a 3.5-liter V-6 powered all Prowler models during its production run, this '01 model benefits from a more-powerful, 253-horsepower version (with an aluminum block) that provided a nearly 40-hp boost over original Prowler power plant ' an upgrade that sliced almost 1.5 seconds off the car's 0-60 mph capability. All model years, however, featured a four-speed Autostick transmission, which allowed conventional automatic shifting or clutchless manual-style gear changes. The engine, transmission and complementing drivetrain components on this low-mileage example are all in perfect working condition, with no known leaks or weeping. Real-world experience with aluminum-intensive construction was one of the reasons for the Prowler's production and the exterior features the lightweight alloy for its hood, decklid and doors, as well as the underlying frame on which the body is attached. All the exterior panels on this car, regardless of the material in which they were stamped, are in excellent, showroom condition.- there are no blemishes to report and that the original paintwork looks like new. The glass (tinted) is also like new, along with excellent-condition seals all around. The same goes for the chrome-finish 17-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, which are still wrapped in the original tires. - Trimmed in black, including the leather bucket seats, this Prowler's cockpit is also in as-new condition, with virtually no appreciable wear to be found. It is also completely stock, with everything from the instruments and lights to the power windows, locks and air-conditioning system in working order. It is also equipped with the available six-disc CD changer. A color-keyed dashboard insert, matching the exterior color, was a detail employed with all Prowler models. - - the chassis, suspension and related components as being in perfect working condition. With the car's extremely low miles, no components have been reported replaced or serviced. - everything is just as it left Chrysler's Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit. Given the very low mileage on this unique modern Mopar factory street rod, the seller's notion that this car is in #1 condition seems a reasonable one. Few were built in the rare silver color of this 2001 Chrysler Prowler and likely far fewer remain in essentially showroom condition. For those who always wanted a brand-new Prowler, this may be as close as you'll get, 20 years later.
