 Description
For 1955, Chevrolet introduced the iconic small-block OHV V8 and model lines with all-new styling and updated engineering inside and out. Before the seller purchased this 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible 25-plus years ago, it received an extensive professional body-off restoration, , and it was modified. He adds, It has always been stored indoors and under a car cover, has never seen rain or snow, and is in excellent running condition. A later model OHV V8 engine was installed during that build, but the seller doesn't have details as to which parts went into it or its displacement. We can see an HEI distributor, center-bolt rocker covers typical of mid-1980s and later cylinder heads, an aluminum radiator, and dual exhausts in the photos. He does say that it's very fast and powerful, and the car has travelled 2,555 miles since it was installed.  To start the engine, the owner-added battery quick-disconnect switch has to be turned on, the gas pedal needs to be pumped, [and the key turned]. It idles very fast when cold, but after warm-up, you can reduce rpm while the transmission is in the Park position by slightly tapping the gas pedal. There is no smoke and the car is completely dry with no leaks. He has no information regarding the automatic transmission or rear axle either, except that they operate properly. According to the body data plate's 612 paint code, the original colors were India Ivory and Regal Turquoise. Back when the car was restored, it was repainted red and white, however.- it has the best paintwork with no rust or body blemishes, whatsoever. A continental kit was added, as well. The aftermarket convertible top is like new, and the glass and seals are in prime condition, he adds. Upgraded headlights were installed, and the rest of the exterior illumination functions as designed - Trim code-537 denotes turquoise and ivory interior, but it was redone in red and white vinyl to match the body colors before the seller purchased the car. Nevertheless, the custom seat upholstery, door panels, and plusher carpet still look new, and the trim is intact, the seller points out. Some surface pitting is evident on the dashboard's brightwork, however. Dakota Digital instruments were installed, and a more modern Sony stereo system was hidden in the glove compartment with woofers, and speakers under the seats and a 10-CD changer in trunk that's controlled with a remote. The stock AM radio remains in the dash, and the heater does not function. - The suspension and power braking systems were rebuilt when the rest of the work was done, and the seller notes, The car was lowered, but it had issues with my driveway, so it was raised back to original ride height. I retained the blocks, should the buyer wish to lower it again. Though the seller was unsure, and there are no photos showing the front brakes, there appears to have been a front disc brake swap, given the brake system parts visible in the engine bay. - no play in the steering wheel, no leaks from the power steering system, and no vibrations from the steel wheels. The BFGoodrich Silvertown wide-whitewall tires show 2014 DOT date codes. This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible has been preserved and driven sparingly since its build, so it still presents well. Its styling and bright two-tone hues will turn heads, and its modifications make driving more enjoyable.
