Description
Having the right color can make a big difference in the appeal of any car. Though Mayfair Maize paint was applied at the factory to this 1969 Pontiac GTO convertible (per code-40 on the body data plate) it is now code-72 Carousel Red. This hue was made famous by the mid-model-year arrival of the Judge, but was available for other models, as well.
The seller purchased the car in 2019 and states that this Goat retains its matching numbers 400 that runs strong, but I just don't have time to drive it.- he recently spent $10,000 on it, and he is working on locating the receipts. Regarding the 350-horsepower, 400-cu.in. V8, he adds, I'm unsure if it was ever rebuilt, but I had it opened up and checked, and had a new oil pump and fuel pump installed, and all the gaskets replaced. The Rochester Quadrajet was refurbished, and the engine was repainted before reinstallation. This 400-cu.in. engine does have a correct YS code, but a photo of the partial VIN on the block to confirm its matching-numbers status hasn't yet been provided.
He continues, After three pumps of the gas pedal, turn the key and it starts and fast idles. There are no leaks or smoke, and the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic shifts smoothly. The rear axle is a non-stock 12-bolt that has Positraction (limited-slip), but the gear ratio isn't currently known. The Carousel Red paint is excellent with minimal blemishes, , but he doesn't know when it was applied or if rust repairs were required first. - a new convertible top motor was just installed that works properly, and there are no leaks or tears in the material. The glass and seals are in excellent condition with no water leaks, and exterior lighting works - Good condition is how the seller describes the code-257 Parchment vinyl seat upholstery and the black carpet. The odometer does not work, but all the other gauges do, , as does the heat. An AM radio is present and an aftermarket steering wheel was added. - - in 2022, new coil springs, suspension bushings, and shocks were installed. The front disc/rear drum braking system received a new booster, master cylinder, lines, hoses, and emergency brake. Restored Rally II wheels feature reproduction F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval redline tires that have no cracks and excellent tread, , but he doesn't know their age. The DOT date codes should be checked before the car is driven any distance. He adds, The steering wheel points straight, there's no play or leaks in its power system, and the car rides like a 1969 GTO should. The Protect-O-Plate is included. A color change to a highly desirable hue and a 12-bolt Posi rear axle upgrade make this 1969 Pontiac GTO convertible an eye-catching and satisfying cruiser.
