Description
Back in 2002, after the seller purchased this plush California-based 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible, he and his wife had it repainted in a cream hue, a new top and interior were installed, and a 351-cu.in. Windsor crate engine swap was performed. - that the car has been used sparingly since, for parades and family events, it has always been stored indoors, and it remains in excellent condition. Originally equipped with a two-barrel 351-cu.in. OHV V8, per the H in the VIN, the Cougar was upgraded to the aforementioned 351 crate engine, that from the photos, appears to have an Edelbrock air cleaner, four-barrel carburetor, aluminum intake manifold, and aluminum cylinder heads. A VHS tape that explains the features of the engine goes with the sale. Press on the gas pedal a few times to start it when cold, the seller advises. It idles [well] and does not smoke, but there is a small oil leak. The FMX (code X on the door-mounted body data plate) three-speed automatic transmission shifts, great, he adds. A 2.75:1-gearset (code 2), was factory issued for the conventional rear axle. This Mercury was originally finished in code C Dark Ivy Green Metallic paint, but 's wife, it was repainted in a Ford/Mercury cream color in 2002. The finish remains very good with no swirls, dents, rust, or scratches, but there are two very small chips, . The convertible top is in working order with no missing components. - the glass is very good, the seals have no leaks to my knowledge, and the exterior lighting works - Though factory-fitted with code 6F Medium Saddle leather and vinyl upholstery, new seat covers of saddle vinyl and custom tweed cloth were installed, the seller notes. There is one small tear in driver's seat back, but they are still in good condition, as is the carpet. Tweed inserts are also in the door panels. The interior trim is intact and the factory instruments and heater work, but the aftermarket radio does not, and the clock's operation has not been determined. Some surface wear is evident on the steering wheel. - One year ago, the suspension was serviced, the seller notes, and the bushings, shocks, and power front disc/rear drum brakes are good. There are no issues with the 14-inch steel wheels, and the tires are approximately two years old with good tread, 's wife. The DOT date codes aren't visible in the photos. - that the steering wheel is straight, when the car is traveling straight, and his wife mentions that the car rides well. This 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible features more power under the hood, well-preserved paint and interior work, and upscale trim to offer its new owner satisfying top-down cruising.
