Description
The times were changing. In 1973, gas and insurance prices were up, while compression ratios and horsepower ratings were down, but the Plymouth Barracuda (and sportier 'Cuda) soldiered on as one of the holdouts of the muscle car era. This 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda, with the optional 340 V8, represents the pinnacle of the lineup's performance for the year'and the 11,260 miles showing on the odometer are believed to be authentic. The car reportedly came from the collection of John Williams, founder of the synthetic oil company Royal Purple, and is said to retain its numbers-matching engine, its original sheetmetal and original chassis/suspension elements. It wears a respray of the original Forest Green Metallic, while the interior is also believed to be original. It has the fender tag, VIN, and original Chrysler sticker still intact, who rates the car in #1 condition.Factory rated at 240 net horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, the 340-cu.in, four-barrel OHV V8 engine in this 'Cuda is said to be original. There's no reported rebuild history, but it wears an aftermarket induction system, including an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, an Edelbrock carburetor (with an electric choke) and a chrome air cleaner.- the original Holley four barrel carburetor will be included with the sale. There are no reported issues with the engine, which is paired with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. There are no reported issues with it, either, and the seller reports no known leaks with the powertrain. Like the engine, the transmission and rear axle are believed original. The Forest Green paintwork on this 'Cuda'per the JF8 code on the fender tag'is to be perfect, and is believed to have been sprayed within the past seven years. There are no stated blemishes or swirl marks in the finish and the seller reports no known rust in the body. The exterior trim also shows very well and the seller notes all the glass is also believed to be original. There are some wiper marks on the windshield, but no cracks or chips. The seals are also said to be in good condition, with no evidence of leaks. All the exterior lighting is said to work normally - The Parchment vinyl bucket-seat interior of this Mopar pony car is believed to be in original condition and shows well for its age. In fact, the seller notes the seat covers appear in excellent shape, with no visible signs of wear, while the headliner is reportedly perfect, and does not sag. The carpet may have been replaced, but that's unverified and nonetheless appears in very good condition. The door panels and dash pad are also in good-appearing condition and the seller notes the gauges, interior lights, and heater are functional. There is some notable wear and a few areas of flaking paint on the door panels. The original radio has been replaced with an older Kenwood cassette deck. - The chassis, suspension, and braking components are believed to be mostly original. There are no reported issues or known needs, but the last suspension service is unknown. The suspension is tight, with no signs of major wear, notes the seller, who adds the car feels solid when driving and that brakes feel good. The 'Cuda wears recently installed P215/70R14 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that show 2022 manufacturing dates. They're mounted on 14-inch Magnum 500-style wheels that appear in very good shape, with no reported curb rash or dings in the trim rings. Although the 11,260 miles on the odometer are unverified, the selling dealer believes the overall strong original condition of this 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda indicates they might be actual. Regardless, this relatively rare Mopar from the end of the muscle car era is said to have its original engine and wears timeless E-body style with perfect paintwork.
