Description
This 1972 Ford Mustang convertible ' with an odometer reading of 17,720 miles ' is barely broken in, who says, I purchased it in 1991 with just 10,800 miles on it, and I'm the second owner after the dealer that stored it from new.- the Mustang still has the original paint, interior, hoses, exhaust, top, and most mechanicals. She also states that it has never been a daily driver, has always been stored indoors when not being used, and has won awards at numerous MCA and SAAC shows. The engine in this Mustang is Ford's optional 302-cu.in. two-barrel V-8 per to code F in the fifth position of the VIN and the decal on the air cleaner. The engine is original to the car and has never had any repairs done to it,- it starts and runs fine, with no smoke and no visible leaks, and that the C4 three-speed automatic transmission works as it should. A 3:00:1 rear gear ratio in a Traction-Lok differential is denoted on the door decal with an O under Axle. As seen in the picture, the shifter top seal and bushings need to be replaced, but they work fine . The pony car has the original Dark Green Metallic paint from the factory (code 4Q), the seller reports and adds, It shines nicely, but there are some blemishes in various locations, mostly from storage damage. There's a small crease on the right front fender just in front of the door, as well as a few small paint ships. Its top, glass, and seals are said to be original, and their condition reflects the low mileage. The Medium Ginger Deluxe knitted-vinyl trim (code CF) is original, as is the carpet, and both are in beautiful condition, but there's some discoloring on the plastic back panels of the front seats. The factory 8-track tape player operates fine, but the AM radio does not tune in well, the seller notes, but I have an FM adaptor that goes into the 8-track that works. - No suspension rebuilds have been required on this Mustang due to its low mileage, the seller discloses. She also notes that the undercarriage was undercoated when the car was new and it still looks clean. The suspension and rear axle have surface rust only, she adds, and the assembly line cardboard tag is still on the rear end.
The shocks and bushings all look fine. Factory steel wheels and wheel covers remain, and the seller reports that the original Michelin tires were just removed and replaced by General whitewalls. The original Michelin spare tire/wheel is in the trunk and has never been on the car.
Prior work was done on the four-wheel drum braking system's master cylinder, and the front wheel cylinders and hoses were recently replaced. The seller recounts, The Mustang drives straight down the road, and the power steering works as it should with no leaks. Additional documentation includes paperwork from the state that corroborates the low mileage. This 1972 Ford Mustang convertible is a time capsule from the early 1970s, and , I have owned it for 31 years, so it's time for it to have a new caretaker.
