Description
In 1964, Jan and Dean sang about the little-old lady from Pasadena and her Super Stock Dodge. If they'd updated the song decades later, they very well could have based it on the owner of this 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10. At age 83, she's owned it for 26 of the car's 28 years and literally drove it mostly to church on Sunday'or so she tells us. We do hope this retired schoolteacher leaned into the go pedal once in a while for its own potentially spiritual experience.
She reportedly paid for the car from years of saving the money she earned playing the organ in church and at other gigs. And, as the story goes, only one of her three brothers has ever been allowed to drive the 11,700-mile roadster ' and even then, it was only once. Reportedly, this Viper has never been in the rain, the convertible top has never been installed and neither have the removable side windows. The car also still wears its original tires. The seller is the brother of the owner and has listed the car on her behalf. - Under this first-generation Viper's signature long, forward-tipping hood is Chrysler's distinctive 488-cubic-inch V-10 engine, which was largely, if loosely, based on the company's LA-series 360 engine, but with a pair of additional cylinders, and all-aluminum construction, and some help from Lamborghini's engineering department as the Italian company was a Chrysler subsidiary at the time. The Viper's V-10 was rated at 400 horsepower and paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. - the engine is original and unmodified, with no record of repairs. It is said to start and idle normally, with no smoke and no reported leaks. No leaks are reported from the transmission, either, which is said to shift smoothly. - this Viper's redder-than-red paintwork is original and in excellent condition, with only a few tiny bubbles in the finish, noted on the hood. Additionally, the top is unused, never used and in like new condition, stored in its factory case. The windshield is said to be blemish-free and the surrounding seal also in very good condition. Also, all of the exterior lighting is said to be in very good, functional condition, with no yellowing or crazing in the headlamp lenses. From an appearance standpoint, the right-rear and front-left wheels show noticeable curb rash. - The Viper's grey leather cockpit appears to be in very good original condition, with the seller describing the condition of the leather seat covers as perfect and noting some minor visible wear on the driver's side of the carpet. - the trim bezel around the drivers' side door handle is damaged and should be replaced. All of the gauges except the oil pressure gauge are said to work normally, along with the heating. There's no air conditioning in this elemental roadster, because it wasn't available. The car also retains its original AM/FM/cassette stereo system. - - the chassis, suspension and brake components are in factory-stock condition, with no known service having been performed on them nor needed. The steering and braking systems are reported to perform well, with no known needs or issues. The 17-inch Michelin XGT-Z tires mounted on the oh-so-Nineties tri-blade wheels are original and the seller recommends replacement if the car is to be driven regularly. Additional paperwork for this 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 include a Carfax report that helps verify the long-term ownership and mileage. The seller is also including the never-used top and side curtains.
Only driven to church on Sundays is a time-worn used-car cliché, but in the case of this wicked-red Viper, it appears to be the God's honest truth. The little-old lady from Pasadena and here Super Stock Dodge was an advertising fable, but in this case, the little-old lady from Austin, Texas and her V-10 Dodge appears to be very authentic.
