 Vehicle Description
This Go Package-equipped 1969 AMC AMX has been in the same family since day one. In 2021, I inherited it from my late brother, who bought it brand new off the showroom floor in 1969. He had a period restoration done about seven years ago. Its engine was rebuilt, a new wiring harness and gas tank were installed, and the interior and paint were redone. He mainly took it to local car shows and won Best in Show a few times.   For the AMX, the Go Package included the 390-cu.in. engine (or 343), power front disc brakes, red line Polyglas tires, 6-inch-wide wheels, the handling package, Twin-Grip differential, heavy-duty cooling, and the over-the-top racing stripe. - the 315-horsepower, 425-lb-ft of torque, 390-cu.in., four-barrel, OHV V8 (code X in the VIN) is original to the car. It's currently equipped with an Edelbrock air cleaner and aluminum rocker covers, a Holley carburetor, aluminum intake manifold, MSD ignition system, headers, and dual exhausts with MagnaFlow mufflers. He is guessing that less than 2,000 miles have been accrued since the last rebuild. He goes on to say, Pump gas a few times, turn the key, rev the engine slowly, and it then idles fine. It doesn't smoke on start up, and there are no known leaks. The four-speed manual transmission shifts well. Code 77 on the body data plate denotes the Butternut Beige metallic hue, but the body was repainted in silver with black stripes about seven years ago. The finish is good to excellent with no swirls or rust, and is still an 8.5-of-10, , who also notes that there is a small dent in the back edge of the trunk lid. Its glass and seals are very good, all of the lights work, and a front spoiler is present - Factory-built with a Charcoal leather (code-931L) interior, the AMX's stock front bucket seats have since been replaced with aftermarket versions with large side bolsters and leather surfaces. They are very good, with no cracks or tears, . Both the headliner and carpet are newer and in very good condition, and the trim is complete. Aftermarket gauges, tachometer, and stereo, and the heater/defroster function, but the factory instruments, including the speedometer, odometer, and fuel indicator do not work. Custom carpeted floormats were added. - Approximately seven years ago, the last suspension service was done, . KYB gas shocks were installed, and the bushings remain in very good condition. The power front disc/rear drum brakes were recently refurbished, and the Eagle Alloy wheels are clean. The tire age is not known, but the Hercules radials appear to show three-digit DOT date codes, indicating they were produced prior to the year 2000. A little play exists in the manual steering, but it's still good. This one-family-owned 1969 AMC AMX has been treated to a color change, and rebuilds and modifications to ensure spirited performance and increased comfort.
