 Vehicle Description
This Dark Green 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL has been in the seller's care for the past 29 years, and is located in San Rafael, California.  Introduced in 1963 at the Geneva Auto Show, as the successor to the legendary 300SL, the 230SL was produced through 1967, making this a final-year example. Another innovation attributable to the model was its removable hard top, the design of which inspired its Pagoda SL nickname.  The W113 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is heralded for its refinement, build quality, reliability, and design. It was also the first sports car to feature front and rear crumple zones in combination with a rigid passenger compartment. Mechanically fuel injected, the 2.3-liter SOHC inline-six was rated by the factory at 148 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 145 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. This example uses a four-speed manual transmission to route power to the rear wheels. - 's declarations, the engine was rebuilt approximately 22 years ago.  - it exhibits neither leaks nor weeps and starts fine from cold, with a slight exhaust odor. The transmission is proclaimed to shift fine in all gears. The Dark Green finish is characterized as being in fair condition. He cites a few scratches, some minor dents on the chrome bumper, and some chipping of the paint as the elements upon which he bases that depiction. The hard top is said to work and be free of leaks, as are the body seals, which are likewise held to admit no water. The soft top is similarly said to work, although a tear in the fabric is noted on the driver's side, near the back of the roof. The seller discloses the repair of some surface rust, which was removed, repaired, and the body of the car was repainted in that area. The glass and windows are reported to be in moderately fine condition and all exterior lighting is declared functional - One of the hallmarks of the W113 SL is the refined nature of its interior treatment. Featuring lots of leather, luxuriously supportive seats and highly legible instruments, the passenger compartment is said by pundits to be reflective of high-quality craftsmanship. The Tan leather and leatherette seats upholstering the interior of this 1967 230SL is to be in good condition. Carpeting is held to be in fair condition, while the hardtop's headliner is affirmed to be sag free. All instrumentation is believed to work, as is the Becker Mexico AM/FM radio. The unit is also equipped with a cassette player, the functionality to which he cannot attest, as he does not use it. The wood at the base of the windshield appears to need refinishing, however no other issues are noted with the interior trim. Manually operated, the windows and door locks are said to work as intended. While the car is not air-conditioned, the heater is said to work fine. - DOT codes indicating the production dates of the tires are not readily discernable in the accompanying photographs. The wheels and their body-colored covers are attested to be free of concerns. The car is said to track straight. No issues are cited with the steering, suspension, or braking systems. By all appearances, this 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Convertible seems to be in good condition overall. Showing patina of age, the car looks to be nice enough to admire and enjoy, but not so nice you'd worry about driving it.
