 Vehicle Description
This 1969 Dodge Charger was upgraded to a 440-cu.in. four-barrel engine, custom paint, and revised rolling stock, and a 1968 grille was installed. It has always been stored with a car cover in my shop, the seller reveals, and I only take it out on nice days. He continues, It belonged to a good friend of mine, Big John, when I was in my teens in the 1970s. I rode in it for years before I ever even got my license. In 1999, John passed away at an early age, and I acquired the car from his family, restored it, and took it to car shows like John had hoped to. The awards it won go with it. The factory-installed 230-horsepower, 318-cu.in. V8, code F in the VIN and code-E44 on the fender tag, was swapped for a 1970 350-hp 440 [cu.in. OHV V8], and I am not sure how many miles are on it or when it was rebuilt, the seller states. An MSD Street Fire CD ignition system, shorty headers, dual exhaust, and a new gas tank were installed in 2006. On cold start, I pump it once, hit the key, and it fires up, the seller notes. It idles high for a minute until I kick it down. It runs sweet and doesn't smoke in normal driving, but there is a little [smoke] when decelerating from high speed. It weeps oil around the pan gasket on the engine and transmission, but I am not aware of any on the rear axle. The TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission shifts very smoothly through all the gears.  A 1975-vintage 440-cu.in. V8 with 68,000 miles also goes with the car, as do numerous parts for the A/C system that were removed, including the compressor. Additional stock parts for the Charger are also included. In 2006, the Charger was repainted and the color was changed from code-F8 Dark Green to a custom Midnight Blue Metallic hue, and the white bumble bee stripe was added. Its finish is still in very good condition with no swirls, , but it does have a few small chips and three very small dents, as seen in the photos.  A new full trunk floor was installed, and the windshield and all the body seals were replaced and do not leak, but there are scratches on the side windows. All of the lighting is in working order. In 2006, the seats were reupholstered and changed from green leather, code-CRG, to black vinyl with half-moon Mopar wording added to the rear seat, the seller points out, and the door panels, carpet, and headliner were replaced. The speedometer, odometer, and fuel level indicator are accurate. Since the other stock gauges don't work (nor do the instrument panel lights), an aftermarket set provides readouts for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and volts. Some of the factory gauge faces show their age, and the dash pad has cracks. The heater doesn't function and the rear window trim is missing. A Sony stereo with a CD player was installed, as was a keyless entry and alarm system that works great and has two fobs. A Grant steering wheel and aftermarket floormats are also present. - Energy Suspension bushings and end-links were installed on the front anti-roll bar in 2005, and new shocks and a set of rear traction bars were added. Cragar wheels wrapped in Indy 500 tires were fitted the next year.  There are no leaks from the shocks, no cracked or damaged bushings, no curb rash or pitting on the wheels or vibrations felt at any speed, he continues. The steering wheel does point straight and no play or leaks are in the power steering system. Though the tires still have 95 percent of the tread on them, they should be replaced due to age.  The front passenger brake is sticky, in the stock power-assisted four-wheel drum system, so it needs some work, he adds. Also, the steering column pulls out a bit toward me and makes the blinker column turn 360 degrees. I am not sure how to fix this. This 1969 Dodge Charger has cultivated a unique look with its custom hue, Cragars, and 1968 grille, and with a 440 under the hood, driving it will always provide an adrenaline rush.
