 Vehicle Description
This Viper Red 1937 Ford Five-Window Coupe Street Rod was restored and modified by its late owner, but the exact dates and details aren't known. The provided photos show a smooth, monochromatic look that was popular in the Eighties, but no outrageous mods that couldn't easily be updated. The running gear is the always-in-style, always-popular small-block Chevy 350 V8 with horsepower enhancements, a four-speed manual transmission, and a Ford 9-inch rear end. - The engine is a ZZ3 350-cu.in. Chevrolet crate engine that's topped with an Edelbrock aluminum dual-quad intake manifold, a pair of 550-cfm carburetors, and aluminum cylinder heads. The seller assumes the engine mileage to be approximately 11,000 miles, as the odometer was reset at the last rebuild. The engine has many aluminum components including valve covers, billet pulleys, and an aluminum fan. The engine has coated headers with solenoid cutouts between the headers and the Flowmaster 2½-inch mufflers. Cold starts take three pumps and then the engine idles nicely, in the opinion of the seller, who adds that he hasn't detected any unusual leaks. The transmission is a Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed manual that shifts nicely with minimal shudder when engaging first gear. The 9-inch Ford rear end has 3.55:1 gears. The original, all-steel body likely had a frame-off restoration in the Eighties, but that history is unconfirmed due to the passing of the most-recent owner. The Viper Red paint was applied approximately 10-15 years ago, who notes minimal cosmetic flaws. The running boards are painted, as are the door handles and grille. - this is a bumper-delete design. The bumper mounting holes have all been welded shut and smoothed. Seller reports very nice finish work The windows have a 30 percent tint and all the glass is in good condition, with only two small stone specks on the windshield . The seals have been replaced and there is no evidence of water leaks as observed . There are no signs of rust, except some general chassis surface rust. All the lights work - Bucket seats from a 1963 Thunderbird were recovered in contrasting beige and red leatherette , who says the seats recline properly and late-model seatbelts were added. There are no visible cracks or tears in the seats. The fitted heavy-duty beige carpet has red piping and only minimal wear in the seller's opinion. The headliner has been replaced and the seller thinks it looks very nice. The tilt steering column is topped by a Billet Specialties leather-wrapped wheel that goes well with the billet door handles and window cranks. There is Dynamat insulation throughout the interior. The gauges are from Classic Instruments and the air conditioning is from Vintage Air. The trunk was upholstered to match the interior. A Sony CD player provides the audio entertainment through four-inch speakers mounted in the kick panels. - The suspension service history is unknown, but all components appear to be in good, serviceable condition. Two-inch dropped spindles are used on the front suspension and parallel leaf springs are used in back with a 1-inch sway bar. The tire age is unknown but estimated at 15 years . The 15-inch aluminum wheels are from Weld Racing and show no major curb rash, who reports that the car tracks straight with only a slight pull that's shown in the provided video. The front brakes are discs and the seller detected no obvious issues on a recent test drive. This 1937 Ford Five-Window Coupe Street Rod is being sold to settle the late owner's estate.
