 Vehicle Description
Generation after generation, the Toyota Land Cruiser has proven its prowess as an unstoppable vehicle on any surface, a reliable, world-beating off-roader seemingly without parallel. The seller provides an extensive history with this 1984 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser, from when he purchased the vehicle in 1997 from a co-worker. He used it as a family grocery getter with occasional off-road and camping adventures, and it now shows 160,000 miles on the odometer and has been lightly used for the last decade. This FJ60 is said to be in stock condition, and accompanying videos show it starts and runs through the gears without issue. U.S.-bound FJ60s for 1984 were equipped with the Toyota 2F 4.2-liter inline-six engine. One of the seller's accompanying videos show the cold start procedure. - that if the vehicle has only been sitting a few days, it starts by pulling the choke knob and turning the key. If it has been more than a few days, pull the choke, crank for about ten seconds while pumping the pedal. Repeat once or twice until she comes to life, say his notes. The video shows the FJ60 starting in a garage, and there's no smoke on startup. The engine is paired with a Toyota four-speed manual transmission and a transfer case with high and low ranges, and manually locking front hubs. The seller's second video shows the FJ60 running through all the gears, including reverse. No unexpected noises are heard in the video, and the transmission appears to shift smoothly and stays in gear. The sheet metal on this White FJ60 appears to be in very good condition, even before you consider its age and mileage. The seller claims that the paint is original, and there's no apparent suggestion that it isn't. It has held up amazingly well over the last 35 years. The seller points out a few minor dents and scratches from off-road adventures, but there's no major damage to report. The only damage that sticks out is to the front bumper, which is twisted a bit on the driver's side. The rear bumper appears to be excellent, and retains brilliant chrome. The bumper end cap on the passenger's side shows a bit of damage on the bottom. The trim, emblems and lights all appear to be in very good condition, with no damage or sun fading. The glass has a progressively deeper tint the further you go toward the rear of the vehicle, and it appears to be holding up well, even around the heating elements in the rear glass - Overall, the FJ60 appears to be in good condition inside, with the exception of the driver's seat. The vinyl side of the seat has been significantly damaged around the seat belt, a common issue for these vehicles. The seat foam is also showing signs of collapse on the seat bottom. The passenger seat, though, looks to be in very good condition, with no signs of excess wear. The rear seat also appears to be in very good condition, with no damage or staining evident in the photos. The cargo area is in very good condition, and the brown carpet shows no wear or staining. The carpet in the passenger compartment appears to be in decent condition, though it does look worn in the driver's footwell, with some scuffing on the sill plate. The pad on the brake pedal is missing. The headliner looks very good, with some very minor staining over the rear passenger area. Door panels appear to be very good, with no damage to the upholstery or the armrests. The dash in these trucks is especially suited for extreme usage, and this one appears to have no damage. All of the gauges are reported functional. The original radio was replaced with a period-correct, twin-shaft Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo that appears to be nearly as old as the FJ60 itself. - that replacing it was never a priority. The FJ60 does have air conditioning, but that the compressor is in need of replacement. He also points out that the headlight washer bottle is cracked, and that he was unable to find a suitable replacement. - All of the accompanying photographs show an underside that backs up the FJ60's claimed Arizona history. There is no rust apparent in any of the photos, either on the frame, underbody, suspension mounting points or rocker panels. The FJ60 has standard power steering, which the seller notes has a leak in the pump which requires occasional refilling. - the steering points straight down the road with no play or vagueness in the wheel. - some of the suspension bushings have been replaced, but it's probably time for a once-over.- that the shocks work well and have no visible leaks. The brake pedal feels soft sometimes, , but the brakes always provide enough stopping power to lock the wheels. The wheels are stock chromed steel Toyota issue, and they're equipped with 30x9.5x15 radial tires. The fronts are a matched pair of Yokohama Geolandars. The rears are a mismatched blend of Uniroyal Liberator and Falken Rocky Mountain. The report shows the original shipment to the dealer in 1984, and the seller's original registration in 1997. We had many fun on and off-road Arizona adventures with her when the kids were young, but she has become something of a garage queen over the past 10 years. I would like it see it go to someone who will put it to use.
